DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE

: Conduct worksite inspections and write reports with findings and recommendations. Provide written summaries of all attended meetings. Deliver trainings (i.e. shop steward) for the Education Fund and Union Locals including some evenings and weekends. Chair Labor-Management Safety and Health committees. Attend Labor/Management meetings upon request. Attend PESH and OSHA inspections, opening and closing conferences. Review EHS Laboratory sampling reports. Work collaboratively with DC37 Divisions, Departments and Union Locals. Attend training classes and maintain Safety certifications. Participate in the creation and design of Safety and Health literature and resources used to inform and educate DC37 members about worker Safety and Health. Work with various NYC Agencies to promote worker safety.

QUALIFICATIONS

College graduate with a baccalaureate degree (Graduate Degree preferred) in the sciences, environmental health and safety, and/or labor studies. Knowledge of labor unions, application of union contracts, labor laws, and worker protection safety and health laws and regulations. Ability to plan, organize and coordinate work activities. Must have excellent research skills, strong oral and written communication skills and the ability to establish and maintain effective work relationships. Must have knowledge of MS Power Point and MS Excel. Must be a self-starter and able to work independently with minimum supervision. Applicants are expected to participate in designated continuing education courses in order to obtain safety and health inspector certifications and stay current with changes in the field of Occupational Safety and Health. The regular workweek for this position will be Monday through Friday. However, weekend, early morning and evening assignments will occur on a regular basis.
