The Program Director, Support Services will oversee supportive services to provide additional support to individuals who participate in harm reduction services. This position specifically provides management and oversight of the drop-in shower program, providing shower access and hygiene support for clients. In addition, this position will assist the management team in developing new opportunities to provide needed support services, including nutritional and food assistance within the Integrated Harm Reduction department. This position will assist the AVP in developing plan for updating the commercial kitchen space and designing trauma-informed approach to food provision. The Program Director also works to network with other social service organizations and community partners to expand client access to needed supports. This position supports the efforts of the Senior Clinical Director, to strengthen staffs’ clinical skills around harm reduction, Motivational Interviewing, and Trauma-Informed Care. Essential Job Functions This position shares responsibility with the AVP for managing the administrative operations of the IHR support services to ensure the achievement of the program goals. The following duties are mandatory requirements of the job: Supervision Supervision of direct service staff members Evaluate staff on a monthly basis by conducting Data Driven Supervision sessions Provide bi-weekly supervision to all staff Facilitate 90 Day and Annual Evaluations of staff Conduct field observations of staff Regularly identify and celebrate staffs’ strengths Regularly identify areas for staff improvement and work with them to develop tools to support their professional growth and the demands of the program Work with AVP and HR to provide progressive discipline when the efforts above are not met with skill enhancement or behavior change from staff, or when there is a violation of the agency’s policies and procedures Enhance and maintain morale of team Recruit, hire, and train new staff members when needed Supervision of Peer Educators, Interns, and Volunteers Following Agencywide Peer Policy, provide oversight and supervision of peers working with support service programs; hire and onboard new peers as budget and program allows. Support staff in their efforts to engage and work with peer educators. Manage stipend process for peers. Work with AVP and HR to support interns during their hands-on training experience; ensuring that documentation and administrative tasks are being completed according to the school requirements. Work to create relationships with volunteer organizations and individual volunteers. Provide onboarding and oversight of volunteers to ensure that services are being providing through the lens of harm reduction and trauma-informed care. Identify training needs and work with Senior Clinical Director to coordinate training for interns and volunteers. Program and Contract Reporting Track service delivery for assigned contracts and keep abreast of any barriers to achieving targets Manage timely submission of paperwork from staff and peers Conduct Quality Assurance checks on paperwork by reviewing it for completion; coordinate clinical chart reviews with Senior Clinical Director Prepare paperwork for data entry by organizing it in advance Assist AVP in the submission of monthly program narrative reports for assigned contracts Oversee site visit preparations for scheduled site visits Attend regular contract meetings with funders and any other funder required meetings as needed Administrative Actively participate in CQI and QA processes including Continuous Quality Improvement sessions Maintain awareness of overall program delivery across contracts and anticipate areas to focus improvement efforts Attend regular community meetings identified by funder and AVP. Provide regular trainings and presentations to community partners regarding services offered at Harlem United. Other Responsibilities The following duties may be required depending on program and agency need. Perform services to model best practices for front line staff and/or in the event of staff shortage or other need to provide coverage. Perform data entry duties to ensure timely submission in the event of staff shortage or other need to provide coverage Participate in internal agency projects and committees as appropriate Education and Certification A bachelor’s or master’s degree is preferred. Experience can substitute for education. Four years’ experience in social services, harm reduction and/or working with the department’s target populations required. Significant experience managing a diverse staff and client-base is essential. Special Skills and Knowledge In addition to the above-listed job responsibilities and educational requirements, the ideal candidate for this position possesses most or all of the following: A deep understanding of and respect for the harm reduction model and its principals Motivational Interviewing experience; ability to model engagement with program participants Working knowledge of trauma-informed care, safety and de-escalation. Knowledge of the needs of people who are living with HIV, people who use substances, including people who inject drugs Knowledge of health disparities and social factors that lead to increased risk for HIV and HCV for certain communities Strong interpersonal skills and ability to set appropriate boundaries are essential. Ability to maintain the highest degree of professionalism in communication and management style. Trustworthiness to manage large amounts of agency resources in client incentives and gas cards Excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential. Comfort with public speaking and presentations. Strong organization and time management skills, including the ability to pay attention to details and follow through on complex projects
