$52-53k The Weinberg Center for Balanced Living (WCBL) is an innovative Older Adult Center funded by the New York City Department for the Aging to address the varied needs, abilities, and interests of New Yorkers aged 60+. WCBL’s holistic wellness programs make it a premier destination for older adults to enhance their physical and nutritional health, artistic prowess, and social connections and to receive any support needed to age in place with dignity and stability. Located in the Lower East Side of Manhattan, WCBL is integrated into Educational Alliance’s Manny Cantor Center, a community center that serves people of all ages, backgrounds, and languages. A large percentage of WCBL’s population identifies Chinese as their primary language, and the majority of these members speak Cantonese and Mandarin and read Chinese.
JOB PURPOSE
The Program Manager works closely with Directors to ensure that the operations of the Weinberg Center for Balanced Living run smoothly and efficiently. This person is directly responsible for managing the logistics of all member engagement events and provides programmatic and administrative support to older adult center staff, members, and volunteers.
SCOPE OF INFLUENCE
- Direct contact with the staff members of MCC, including the Weinberg Center for Balanced Living, the Family Resource Center, the Changemakers team, the Facilities and Operations departments, and the Research and Evaluation team.
- Direct contact with multilingual older adults, including providing program information and referrals.
- Communicates regularly with and provides operational support to instructors, volunteers, and interns.
- Conducts outreach to and extensively engages with older adults whose primary language is Chinese.
- Primary contact for Chinese-speaking older adults for all inquiries.
- Direct contact with Chinese-speaking older adult volunteers and instructors.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Member and Volunteer Engagement.
- Respond to members’ email, phone, and in-person inquiries.
- Conduct new member intakes and distribute and collect membership applications and cards.
- Provide members with information assistance and referrals to community resources.
- Listen to members’ feedback and communicate information to the appropriate staff member.
- Assist Changemakers Team in management of older adult volunteers in assigned tasks.
- Provide translation and interpretation services to clients, volunteers, and other community members.
- Translate announcements, e-newsletters, menus, event flyers, membership application documents, program evaluations and surveys, and other written communications into Chinese.
- Provide interpretation for Chinese-speaking older adults during educational workshops and special events.
- Make announcements during meals and events to notify members of upcoming programs, policy changes, etc.
- Write content for newsletters and other communications to members.
- Office and Programmatic Administration.
- Support the research, promotion, organization, and coordination of program activities.
- Manage the logistics of member engagement events, including classes, field trips, meetings, etc.
- Generate activity attendance sheets and compile daily service data for monthly service summaries.
- Maintain NYC Department for the Aging’s online database, while preserving confidentiality.
- Assist in the compilation of records for NYC Department for the Aging’s program and nutrition audits and the creation of reports for funders, External Engagement and program review.
- Implement and maintain an organized and accessible physical and virtual filing system and supply inventory (e.g., Equipment Register.)
- Utilize internal systems to complete purchase orders, check requests, and other financial transactions.
- Order program supplies as needed, unpacking and organizing them upon delivery.
- Participate in the development of program materials, including brochures, calendars, and flyers.
- Assist with unexpected disruptions in activities, such as instructor absences and inclement weather.
- Perform special projects and other related duties as assigned.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor’s Degree and 1-3 years’ experience preferred.
- Fluency in Cantonese and/or Mandarin required.
- Skilled in the translation of written materials from English to Traditional and/or Simplified Chinese.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel, Word, and Outlook.
- Experience with online database systems.
- May be required to work at some weekend or evening events.
- Experience, compassion, and ease working with older adult population.
