Job Announcement Prevention Educator:
Specialized Programs and Professionals Part-time, 5-15 hours/week. Flexible schedule-available to work 7:00 AM-3:30 PM with some evenings and weekends. NOVA (Network of Victim Assistance) is the comprehensive victim services organization in Bucks County. With a 51-year history, NOVA has expanded to include a continuum of prevention and direct services to prevent and address the needs of victims of sexual assault and other serious crimes. NOVA is known across many disciplines and the community at large for its exceptional services and professionalism. As a mature and fiscally sound organization, establishing sustainability is key to our future success — serving all victims who need assistance, educating the community at large on violence prevention, and providing top-ranked professional training.
POSITION SUMMARY
This part-time
Prevention Educator:
Specialized Programs and Professionals will present high-quality educational programs to teens, parents, and professionals on respectful boundaries, healthy relationships, and violence prevention. A special focus for this position will be co-facilitating the established SHARE (Smart Healthy Appropriate Relationship Education) program to small groups of teens and young adults with autism and/or other intellectual or developmental disabilities. This program was designed by NOVA to support self-advocacy, protective behaviors, and skills to navigate positive social interactions.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Presents high-quality, interactive SHARE (Smart Healthy Appropriate Relationship Education) programs to neurodiverse young adults, tailoring to their unique needs using established curriculum materials and presentation techniques. Presents high-quality, interactive violence prevention programs supporting NOVA’s mission to High School students and adults using established curriculum material and presentation techniques. Follows department procedures in accordance with the PET Department Manual. Handles program participant disclosures appropriately and in accordance with legal requirements and agency procedures. Makes appropriate referrals to program participants regarding available support services. Under the direction of the Prevention Coordinator, participates in public events in order to expand NOVA’s visibility in the greater community and promote access to NOVA services. Maintains all required paperwork and program records and submits all documentation in a timely and accurate manner. Keeps supervisor up to date with information concerning outreach contacts, description of audience group(s), program requests, materials developed, number of participants, outcomes, and follow-up, etc.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/ QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS
Bachelor’s degree in education, human services, or another relevant field Experience working with students with disabilities is preferred One year of educational experience NOVA may require employees to participate in drug testing Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills with diverse groups, including school, agency, and community professionals; volunteers; adolescents, young adults; parents. Strong oral communication skills. Public speaking experience preferred Successful completion of the 45-hour Sexual Assault Counselor Training course Successful completion of NOVA’s Educator Training course. Flexible schedule – available to work early mornings, evenings, and weekends. Proficiency with Office 365 LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS Complete the Sexual Assault Counselor Training (SAC), annual training requirements, and continuing education requirements as applicable Must meet all required background checks (criminal, FBI, child abuse) at hire and every five years after that NOVA is an AA/EOE.
