South Carolina Youth Advocate Program (SCYAP) is seeking mental health professionals, mentors, or life coaches to provide transitional services and support for youth and young adults who are in foster care, aged 14 to 21 in the Pathways 2 Adulthood program. •This is a face-to-face, contingent, contractor role. This program is allotting 5 hours per week, PER CLIENT, for 3 months, with a potential extension to 6 months. •The primary function of this role is ensuring the youth have a supportive adult in their life who can guide them through day-to-day struggles and connect them with personal growth and development opportunities. Duties:
Help youth take ownership of their actions and decisions to ensure they are well prepared for adulthood. Assist youth to be ready and able to tackle the many challenges that will be faced in the future. Provide youth who are in foster care the opportunity to learn the skills necessary to become self-sufficient, productive and contributing members of society.
Support and Guidance :
providing emotional support and practical advice to help youth manage stress, build self-confidence, develop healthy coping strategies, and make choices/decisions that promote success.
Goal Setting :
assisting youth in setting realistic and achievable goals, related to academics, personal growth, and/or future careers.
Support and Motivation :
providing encouragement and support, helping youth stay motivated and focused.
Skill Development :
assisting youth with developing essential life skills such as time management, communication, and problem-solving.
Decision Making :
guiding youth in making informed decisions that align with their values and aspirations.
Overcoming Obstacles :
assisting and guiding the youth with identifying and overcoming obstacles that may be hindering progress.
Qualifications:
Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree required. Minimum 1 year working with children and adolescents ages 0-21 required. Positive attitude and dedication to working with at-risk population. Good clinical judgement with willingness and desire to work collaboratively with treatment team. High energy, motivated individuals with strong work ethic and ability to work independently. Must have access to a laptop or computer in order to submit electronic service notes. Advanced oral and written communication skills.
