Full Job Description Program Specialist- Housing Assistance Location:
Charleston, SC Pay:

$22/hour

Schedule:

Monday-Thursday, 8:00 AM -5:30 PM We are a recruiting and staffing agency assisting a government department in Charleston, SC with hiring a Program Specialist to support the Housing Program. This role is responsible for processing applications, determining eligibility, and helping low-income individuals and families access affordable housing. Ideal candidates are detail-oriented, deadline-driven, and bring strong administrative experience with an interest in public service or social work.

Key Responsibilities:

Manage the intake process for housing applications, including interviews, documentation review, and data entry. Verify applicant income, background, and eligibility under HUD and program guidelines. Maintain accurate case files and update waiting lists and applicant status. Communicate with applicants, landlords, and internal departments regarding program rules and application status. Conduct rent calculations, recertifications, and support portability coordination between agencies. Assist with applicant orientations and landlord engagement. Provide front desk coverage during training and as needed.

Qualifications:

Associate’s degree in Business, Social Work, Human Services, Public Administration, or a related field. 3+ years of experience in property management, community services, low-income housing, or a similar setting. Excellent administrative, organizational, and customer service skills. Ability to work with diverse populations and maintain confidentiality. Strong attention to detail and comfort with time-sensitive work. Willingness to obtain required Certifications(Required within 1 Year of Employment):
