JOB DESCRIPTION
Job Title:

Coordinator, Group Homes and Residential Treatment Facilities

Qualifications:

The person in this position should possess the following:
(1) Must be certified or eligible for certification as a secondary administrator in South Carolina. Prior administrative experience is preferred and previous teaching experience required; Knowledge of educational, child development and classroom teaching/management theories with a good understanding of educational and therapeutic interventions is essential. Experience in a supervisory capacity, and knowledge of special education policies and procedures are required. Knowledge of trauma-skilled practices is preferred. Certification in areas of special education are preferred.
(2) The ability to think creatively and plan concretely;
(3) The skills to relate andmunicate effectively to students and program stakeholders;
(4) Themitment to the principle that all students can be led to success in learning;
(5) The ability to coordinate with various state agencies, private facilities, and transition organizations;
(6) The desire to work with students and families who struggle to succeed in a traditional school setting;
(7) The ability and willingness to assess program oues and make needed adjustments to help the program reach its maximum potential;
(8) The ability to identify and implement new techniques for student en­gagement in the learning process; and
(9) The ability to maintain academic rigor in all disciplines.

Director of Alternative Programs

Supervises:

All staff working at all Group Homes and Residential Treatment Facilities

Essential Functions:
  • Sets the standards of achievement, professionalism and goals for the program.
  • Directs the preparation of class schedules, lesson plans, and cumulative records.
  • Uses data to inform and adjust practices, protocols, and responses to behaviors and academic needs of students
  • Observes and evaluates teacher, paraprofessional, and other professional staff performance.
  • Coordinates the hiring and evaluation of school personnel.
  • Monitors and reports to facility managers concerns related to property in regards to safety and security.
  • Travels to program facilities at least four days each week.
  • Plans and manages budgets and ensures that all accounting procedures are followed.
  • Establishes collaborative relationships with colleagues, consultants, therapists, various agencies, facilities, schools, and administrators.
  • Maintains the required educational certifications and training required of all Greenville County Schools employees as well as those professional certifications and endorsements required by the State of S.C.
  • Actively seeks training in current developments, trends, and instructional best practices which pertain to the overall success of the student by maximizing his or her individual skills and talents.
  • Assists in and monitors use of non-violent crisis prevention when necessitated by student behavior in order to ensure a safe school environment.
  • Organizes and facilitates team meetings, professional development, and crisis intervention protocols and procedures.
  • Recognizes and proactively reacts to conditions which potentially, may alter the effectiveness of the whole program and/or their specific job responsibilities.
  • Participates in IEP meetings as the administrator and authorized representative tomit services on behalf of Greenville County Schools.
  • Communicates with district and facility representatives parents/guardians and external consumers in a positive and supportive manner.
  • Attends classes, conferences, and other opportunities for learning for personal professional development.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of all procedures related to emergencies and disasters.
  • Participates in discussions in a proactive, professional, and solution-focused manner.
  • Confronts issues with other staff honestly and respectfully. Processes incidences to a mutually satisfactory conclusion.
  • Oversees program and behavioral oues and interprets results. Uses results to modify or adapt current programming.

  • Must project a positive image of the program to the students, parents/guardians, and staff as well as exhibit a positive employee attitude.
  • Must have knowledge of legal obligations for reporting abuse and/or neglect, knowledge of crisis intervention procedures and special education rules and regulations.
  • Must have the ability to delegate tasks efficiently among team members andmunicate the needs of the student.
  • Must have excellent interpersonalmunication, and management skills.
  • Must have some knowledge ofputer operations and proficient in Excel, Word, and presentation software.
  • Must have the ability tomunicate effectively, verbally and in writing to a variety of internal and external individuals and entities.
  • Must adhere to the policies and procedures of Greenville County Schools.
Terms of Employment:

11 months (220 Days); Building Level Administrative/Supervisory Salary Schedule; Group B-1
