GENERAL DESCRIPTION

The Community Coalition Against Human Trafficking (CCAHT) unites and equips our community•Knoxville and the 33 counties of East Tennessee•to end human trafficking through prevention and intervention, while providing survivors with trauma-informed, comprehensive aftercare services. Through our direct services program, Grow Free TN, we offer a variety of services to those impacted by human trafficking. All of our services are free, individualized, and all-inclusive. Through the Tennessee Counter-Trafficking Alliance, CCAHT serves as the single point of contact partner for the East Tennessee region. At CCAHT, we choose love first. When it comes to the clients we serve, we understand that healing takes time. Each client’s needs and journey toward restoration will be different, which is why our aftercare programming is survivor-centered and grounded in industry best practices and research. POSITION

Reporting to the Director of Adult Services, the Housing Support Specialist (HSS) serves a vital role as the initial point of contact for individuals seeking services through the 24/7 hotline, to include potential clients as well as community providers seeking information. The HSS is responsible for receiving hotline calls and providing triage for service initiation and referrals. The HSS provides day to day staffing of the Grow Free TN Emergency Receiving Center (ERC), providing attentive support to individuals during their shelter stay and promoting safety of residents and staff. The HSS is a member of the collaborative care team of GFTN staff who are dedicated to ensuring survivors of human trafficking in the East Tennessee area have access to a wide range of supports to enhance recovery and healing. The Housing Support Specialist is an essential position, responsible for shift coverage of the ERC during scheduled shifts that may include inclement weather, evenings, weekends, and holidays. HSS are required to provide remote, on-call hotline response during hours when the shelter is not otherwise staffed to ensure critical response is available 24/7. Housing Support Specialists should be available to work five 8-hour shifts per week scheduled between 8am and 12am Sunday through Saturday.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Manages operational functions of emergency receiving shelter, including; guest interaction, answering telephone, monitoring security system, documentation and data entry Maintains safety by enforcing program regulations Crisis management and de-escalation Demonstrates unconditional positive support of all shelter guests Participates in staff meetings and trainings Engages clients through a warm, caring, and supportive atmosphere that builds trust and confidence and fosters healthy relationship boundaries Answers the 24-hour crisis line and responds appropriately Completes initial contact and program orientation Assists with the daily living needs of shelter residents Assists in the coordination of support services and intervention for shelter guests Activates supports through both internal and external resources Triages incoming referrals and routes to appropriate staff for follow-up Assures timely documentation of all services and interaction notes Performs routine chores and cleaning tasks to ensure the safety and cleanliness of the shelter Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS

The Housing Support Specialist will be thoroughly committed to the Community Coalition Against Human Trafficking’s mission. Concrete demonstrable experience and other qualifications include: Minimum high school diploma or equivalent; Bachelors or Associates degree preferred Experience working with survivors of human trafficking and/or related programs preferred Ability to work with diverse populations Sensitivity to sexual exploitation, domestic violence, substance abuse and other gender-related issues Strong ability to work independently and as part of a team; takes initiative Excellent problem-solving skills Ability and willingness to work irregular hours Excellent organizational and communication skills Persistence and flexibility, with ability to multitask and prioritize Fast learner, quick mind, and capacity for hard work Successful completion of criminal background check

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Ability to communicate clearly in English both written and verbal Good visual & audio capabilities Sit or stand for extended periods Ability to ascend/descend stairs frequently Bend, stoop, and/or squat PC/Keyboarding abilities; Mac preferred Regularly exposed to cleaning products, chemicals and solvents. Occasionally works in outdoor weather conditions. Work shifts as needed (weekends, holidays)
