PAY RATE

$125 daily per conference day and daily per conference training day $150 Summer conference youth staff are exempt from overtime pay according to the U.S. Fair Labor Standards Act of 1938, as Amended WH Publication 1318, revised March 2004.

BRIDGE BUILDERS LEADERSHIP CONFERENCE OVERVIEW

BRIDGES unites and inspires diverse young people to become confident and courageous leaders committed to community transformation. As a part of the Bridge Builders program, 1,100 students in grades 7-12 will connect with other youth from across the Mid-South during week-long summer Leadership Conferences. The Bridge Builders program uses experiential learning and adventure-based education to provide a learning environment that is both transformational and empowering for youth.

POSITION DESCRIPTION

The Evening Coordinator will be responsible for overseeing the facilitation of Bridge Builders Evening Programming and for the nighttime supervision of Resident Advisors and conference participants during the 11th and 12th Grade Conferences. As the Evening Coordinator and role model to participants and Resident Advisors, the EC) is essential to the success of Bridge Builders Leadership Conferences.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES FOR RA TEAM LEADER

Be a positive role model for conference participants exemplifying respect for others, open-mindedness, and a dedication to social justice and youth empowerment. Maintain a high level of professionalism at all times. Maintain professional boundaries with staff, and conference participants. These boundaries are covered in but not limited to the Staff/Student Protocol form,Youth Program Staff Employee Handbook, and the Sexual Harassment Handout. Violation of boundaries with either participants or staff/AmeriCorps members will result in immediate discipline up to and including dismissal. Must be able to handle conflicts with participants and/or staff members in a positive manner. In case of emergency, contact follow all safety procedures. Required to reside overnight in dorms during conferences; must remain alert at all times and provide supervision of Bridge Builders conference participants and Resident Advisors. Must maintain a daily journal of any nighttime problems that occur and report them to the Conference Coordinator at breakfast unless the problem requires immediate attention. In that case, Senior Director of Bridge Builders and the Chief Program Officer are to be called regardless of the time. Monitor the Resident Advisors and conference participants by walking the halls/cabins. Must be present in the conference facility at all times while on duty. Monitor conference bed check and wake-up procedures. Must checkout with the Daytime Conference Coordinator before leaving the conference for the day. Every afternoon before the shift begins, attend the Resident Advisors meeting and lead the meeting. Train Resident Advisors on night entertainment activities (Staff Follies, Bridge Builders Tonight, skits, etc.). Responsible for leading the dorm meetings on the first night of the conference. Supervise and assist Resident Advisors with leading Big Group Games, Free Time, and Bridge Builders Tonight after dinner. Be an active participant in all events. All other duties as assigned by the Chief Programs Officer.

QUALIFICATIONS/STRENGTHS FOR RA TEAM LEADER

Must have graduated high school. Possess a genuine interest, knowledge, and passion for working with a diverse population of adolescent youth and adults so that their unique assets are recognized and developed. Value diversity and seek out opportunities for self, staff, AmeriCorps members, volunteers, and conference participants to interact and learn in diverse settings. Have enthusiasm for coaching and developing the strengths and skills of conference participants. Detail oriented with the ability to multi-task while maintaining high quality accountability measurements and documentation. A lifelong learner and exhibits this in life. Effective communication skills such as active listening, body language, clear and concise expectations, etc.; effective interpersonal, intercultural, and leadership abilities. Reliable transportation (public or private) is required to arrive at service location as scheduled.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand, walk, run, sit (in chairs and/or on the ground); use hand to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch; talk and hear. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move 20 to 25 pounds unassisted and 75 pounds assisted. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, and distance vision.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Approximately 90% of the time is spent outside in the summer heat and humidity while engaged in high energy activities. Outdoor activities continue in the rain and are only moved inside if lightning and/or thunder accompany the rain. The noise level can become quite high when working with and/or around a large group of adolescent youth. Summer staff members need to be aware of and not be offended by the smell produced by a large group of individuals who have been outside in the heat, participating in high-energy activities.
