SUMMARY OF POSITION

Under the general supervision of the Program Director 1, the Program Coordinator , Y Achievers, will implement high quality YMCA Y-Achievers Programs. Provides direct leadership, supervision, instruction and motivation for advisors, teachers, volunteers and participants in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures and creates a safe and positive atmosphere that promotes safety and engagement. The YMCA of Memphis & the Mid-South is a fast-growing, responsive organization. We believe in developing people and teams to create impact through teen programs rooted in excellence and continuous improvement.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Directs and supervises program activities to meet the needs of the community and fulfill YMCA objectives. This includes direct service to program participants per established program models. Recruits, hires, trains, develops, schedules and directs part time staff and volunteers as needed. Reviews and evaluates staff performance and develops strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals. Establishes new program activities and expands programs within the community in accordance with strategic and operating plans. To be a role model for Y-Achievers youth utilizing the YMCA ideal of “Spirit, Mind and Body,” along with reflecting the character development values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility. Coordinate program activities to meet the needs of program participants as well as in alignment with the director. Compiles program statistics that can be used for grant reporting. Monitors and evaluates the effectiveness of and participation in programs. Assist with grant writing for Y-Achievers and other programs as needed and assigned by the Director. Assist participants in developing social and life skills through positive role modeling and learning activities Create an environment that is diverse, culturally sensitive and relevant to the needs of the adolescents involved. Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with community organizations. Form collaborative efforts with parents, mentors, and volunteers. Attend scheduled staff meetings and one on ones with the Director. Participate in planning and implementation of special events such as Career Clusters and College visits as needed. Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

Bachelor’s degree in related field preferred or equivalent combination of education and experience. Two years or more years related experience working with pre-teens and teens preferred Excellent computer skills and experience with standard business software. Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.

WORK SCHEDULE

This position follows a primarily weekday schedule (Monday through Friday), with some evening and weekend hours required based on program needs and special events. This is an in-person role.
