Job Description
The City of Johnson City, Tennessee is currently accepting applications for a Cross Connection Inspector with the Water & Sewer department. The employee Performs intermediate technical work scheduling and performing tests of backflow preventers; enforcing cross connection and grease trap regulations; does related work as required. This is responsible technical work in directing the operations and activities of the Cross Connection Program and the Grease Control Program. The work involves responsibility for directing, scheduling, and performing required testing of backflow preventers throughout system. The employee in this class exercises considerable independent judgment in scheduling and directing activities. The work is performed under the general supervision of an administrative and technical superior who reviews work through conferences, evaluation of reports and results obtained. Also performs private well inspections as part of the Cross Connection Control Program.
Essential Functions of Position:
plans and schedules the operation of the Cross Connection Program; plans and schedules the operation of the Grease Control Program; implements cross connection testing programs; enforces grease trap regulations; investigates grease related overflows; helps to enforce Cross Connection policies and procedures; helps to enforce Grease Trap policies and procedures; performs well inspections to ensure private wells are separated from the potable water system; performs related tasks as required.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Thorough knowledge of the Cross Connection Control Program and Grease Trap Operation and Maintenance requirements; ability to plan, schedule, and keep records; ability to make decision recognizing established precedents and practices, and to use resourcefulness and tact in meeting new problems; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationship with City officials, employees, and public (industrial and residential).
Acceptable Experience and Training:
Completion of high school or GED, some college focusing on science and public health; basic knowledge of Cross Connection Control Principles and Grease Trap Operation and Maintenance; or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provide required knowledge, skills and abilities. Possession of a Reduced Pressure Backflows Preventer Certificate issued by the State of Tennessee or the ability to obtain within six months of employment.
