JOB DESCRIPTION

The Research Coordinator is responsible for overseeing and standardizing data collection efforts across multiple research projects. This includes managing field operations, coordinating field technicians, and ensuring that all data collection aligns with project goals and timelines. The role involves implementing quality control protocols, allocating resources efficiently, and developing standard operating procedures (SOPs) to ensure consistency. The coordinator also leads training sessions, maintains documentation, and integrates data from various sources for comprehensive analysis.
Strong communication and collaboration are essential, as the coordinator serves as a liaison between federal agencies and project stakeholders. They provide regular updates, troubleshoot field-related issues, and ensure that stakeholder data needs are met. This role requires proactive problem-solving and the ability to manage multiple moving parts in a dynamic research environment.
The coordinator also manages data storage, organization, and cleaning, while supporting GIS mapping and spatial analysis. They develop and maintain bioinformatic pipelines and guide statistical modeling and interpretation. Responsibilities include producing visual data outputs and writing detailed reports. Budget oversight is also part of the role, assisting the Program Director in monitoring expenditures and ensuring financial compliance.
Additional duties include overseeing molecular genetics workflows such as DNA extraction, PCR techniques, and sequencing. The coordinator manages service lab operations, handles client communication and billing, and ensures the lab is well-equipped. They also train undergraduates and technicians in field sampling, lab techniques, safety protocols, and qPCR analysis. Travel to field sites is occasionally required to support training and data collection efforts.

EXPECTED SALARY

$52,000.00 – $53,500.00. commensurate with education and training

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate area and three years of relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Valid driver’s license required.

PREFERRED
  • M.S. in wildlife ecology or a similar degree,
  • Experience in generating and analyzing molecular genetic data
  • Metagenomic library preparation and bioinformatic analysis
  • Coordinating field/laboratory technicians to facilitate the safe and successful transport of biosamples
  • Protocol design and data management
  • Experience supervising lab technicians
  • Statistical skills and command of R
