Uncle Sam, LA Are you our next Capital Engineering Manager? Mosaic is currently seeking a Capital Manager to effectively manage a portfolio of capital projects for both the Faustina & Uncle Sam sites that consist of Asset Sustaining, turnaround related and not-turnaround related, projects; Opportunity Projects; as well as Large Capital Projects. The Capital Projects Engineering Manager provides leadership, support, and mentoring to Capital Project Engineers who are executing capital projects within their areas of responsibility. They will work with stakeholders and business unit managers to ensure proper communication and alignment through the planning, engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning phases of capital projects. The manager will work closely with the team to ensure the safe and timely execution of projects. What will you be responsible for?
Safety:
Support Project Engineers to ensure all pre-execution safety plans are finalized. Confirm in-field 300-in-3 safety audits are completed and addressed as needed. Lead 300-in-3 site review meetings with capital leadership. Lead the site capital risk reduction effort. Ensure all capital safety incident investigations are completed and documented as required. Lead the identification and communication of project safety risks to site and capital leadership.
Quality:
Support Project Engineers with stakeholder coordination and communication to ensure projects meet required project scope and quality. Collaborate on planning of projects and coordinate efforts and resources with relevant departments. Confirm completion of all QA/QC testing. Assist with the completion of post-project quality surveys. Delivery (Schedule): Support Project Engineers with the development and refinement of capital project schedules during preliminary and detailed engineering. Lead communication with site and capital leadership, along with other stakeholders, to ensure all parties are aware of critical project schedules. Lead the identification and communication of key risks to project schedules.
Cost:
Support and verify preliminary and final project cost estimates with Project Engineers through preliminary and detailed engineering. Lead the Project Planning and Engineering group assigned to develop labor, equipment and material estimates and construction sequence to facilitate development of project schedules and budgets.
Procurement:
Lead the project and purchasing team in the tender process supporting bid review meetings and bid clarifications. Lead communication to stakeholders and capital leadership regarding changes to identified project cost estimates. Lead the identification and communication of key project cost risks. Provide a weekly update to Capital Project Leadership on project execution progress, focusing on transparent communication and risk to project Safety, Quality, Delivery, and Cost. Lead any effort requiring additional communication to Capital Project Leadership and other stakeholders when risks are identified.
Site Budget and Rack & Stack:
With Project Controls support, lead the effort with site leadership to create and maintain annual and 5-year capital project plans. Manage adjustments needed to the budget and forecast throughout the year, including offsets, deferrals, pull-ins, and carryover spending.
People Development:
Coach and develop team members, both internal and third party, to become effective project engineers and coordinators. Mentor junior engineers to obtain on-the-job and post-secondary educational development, including professional engineering licensing. What do you need for this role? Bachelor’s degree in engineering. Professional Engineering License preferred. 10+ years of proven experience in engineering, project management, and/or construction management, particularly in leading capital projects. Previous experience leading and mentoring people preferred. Strong project management skills with a track record of successfully delivering complex projects. Strong leadership, stakeholder management, communication (written and verbal), organizational, and interpersonal skills with the ability to work independently and on a team. Knowledge of industry standards, regulations, and best practices.
