Director of Project Management Position Summary The Director of Project Management is responsible for leading the Project Management Office (PMO) and driving organizational excellence through effective project management and performance management practices. This role involves overseeing the planning, execution, and completion of key projects that align with the organization’s strategic objectives. The Director will work closely with cross-functional teams to ensure projects are delivered on time, within scope, and within budget, while also fostering a culture of continuous improvement and performance excellence. This role is funded by New York State through the Career Pathways Training Grant; continued employment is dependent upon ongoing availability of grant funding. The funding for this position is anticipated to continue through at least March 2027.
Key Accountabilities:
Develop and implement the PMO strategy, ensuring alignment with the organization’s goals and objectives. Provide leadership and direction to the PMO team, fostering a supportive and high-performance culture. Oversee the planning, execution, and completion of projects, ensuring they meet organizational standards and deliverables. Define project scope, goals, and deliverables in collaboration with senior leadership and stakeholders. Establish and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure project success and organizational performance. Implement best practices, tools, and continuous improvement initiatives to ensure deliverables are met and enhance project outcomes. Manage project resources, including personnel, budgets, and equipment. Ensure optimal allocation and utilization of resources to achieve project objectives. Collaborate with senior leadership and stakeholders to support contracting, reporting, and compliance procedures. Build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders. Communicate project status, risks, and issues to senior leadership and other stakeholders in a concise, timely, and effective manner. Provide training and development opportunities for PMO staff to enhance their skills and capabilities. Promote a culture of learning and professional growth within the team. Ensure all projects comply with organizational policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements. Implement governance frameworks to support effective project management and decision-making.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelors degree required, Masters degree preferred Minimum of 5 – 7 years experience in a leadership role with a focus on performance management, measurement and improvement Project Management Professional (PMP) certification preferred. Must have a proven track record of driving and executing strategies. Experience in building, engaging, and leading high performing teams, mentoring, coaching, and developing talent. Understanding of, or capability to quickly learn federal and state healthcare initiatives and regulations and associated programs/projects/pilots Experience with workplans, budgets, and performance and financial reporting. Advanced skills in Microsoft Office applications including Excel, PowerPoint, and Word. Competencies Track record includes planning, coordinating and completing projects that involve both IT systems and business process changes – demonstrating a proven ability to integrate people, process and technology to effectively meet measurable outcomes Strong sense of urgency and proven background for setting and meeting deadlines Ability to think and problem solve at a systems level, as opposed to only on a program or organizational delivery level (e.g., identify strategies focused on increasing coordination or filling gaps in service Excellent organizational skills to manage multiple projects concurrently Collaborate across stakeholder organizations and functions to ensure consistent implementation of new, improved processes and protocols
