The Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT), an internationally renowned college of art and design, business and technology of the State University of New York, invites applications for the position of Department/Industry Project Coordinator in the School of Graduate Studies, Global Fashion Management department.

JOB DESCRIPTION

The Global Fashion Management Master of Professional Studies (MPS) program prepares experienced apparel industry professionals to advance to more senior level and executive positions by providing interactive, student-centered education taught by seasoned industry professionals and accomplished academics. The program’s global partnerships and international student body are designed to enrich the curriculum through discussion and awareness. Research, collaboration, and communication foster leadership, innovation, and strategic thinking, with the objective of infusing progressive ideas into a rapidly changing and highly competitive industry.

Responsibilities:

Provide support for four-seminar program with partner schools in Paris, Mexico City and Hong Kong, including responsibility for the Seminar course in New York. Manage international travel. For the New York Seminar, provide additional support to international students for entry to the US.
Work closely with the chairperson on all aspects of the administration of the four-semester program.
Communicate on a constant basis with students, faculty, alumni, and program candidates.
Work independently on coordinating all aspects of departmental projects.
Oversee students, vendors, and the community on planning, scheduling, and implementing all aspects of department initiatives.
Assist chairperson in gathering data, researching materials, and preparing SUNY and college-wide reports.
Create agendas for and take minutes at department meetings.
Preparation of materials relating to reappointment and tenure and promotion matters, assisting chairperson in finalization of materials. Communicate with faculty and T&P committee to schedule meetings, organize and disseminate T&P documentation digitally, and sign required digital forms.
Two main areas of focus include Research and Preparation for a global experience.

Research:

A progressively deeper level of research is required on several levels, to prepare GFM students from around the world for seminars that require business, cultural, historical, political, and aesthetic knowledge prior to attending lectures in the respective city and country; foundation in cultural manners, and sensitivity in communications as intercultural teamwork is a requirement; research explaining the company, business model, and/or social concept offered through speakers as business representatives, creative workshops, or museum exhibitions prior to the start of seminars.
Candidate must be adept at extrapolating data for speeches, lectures, and marketing efforts; to maintain awareness of competitive programs and curricula globally; and to remain current on academic and industry professionals’ biographies as prospective classroom and seminar lecturers, and as program sponsors.

Global Experience:

Cultural knowledge; language skills; ability to locate unfamiliar sites and venues and navigate cities; maintain consistent and sustained stamina; and sensitivity to host country’s rules, policies, and regulations.
Familiarity with social media platforms and ability to run the social media channels of the program.
Appropriate written and spoken communication skills are essential to disseminate information clearly and concisely to a variety of audiences including non-native English speakers and global students.
In depth knowledge of geography, time zones, and awareness and understanding of cultural differences. Research to stay up to date with global trends and changes in political and cultural changes in partner countries.
Manage collection and organization of travel documents with attention to copious details for each student while observing and protecting student privacy. Research rates and restrictions for trip insurance and travel health insurance documents and submit for three seminars annually. Maintain communication on student documents with the Dean’s office and Office of International Programs.
Participation in international seminars may occasionally include travel to global study locations, based on program needs.
Access and manage information programs such as BANNER and Finance Enterprise in support of departmental needs.
In collaboration with the Chairperson, create annual departmental OTPS projections to secure necessary funding for department needs. Throughout the fiscal year, track invoices and spending against projections.
In addition to planning of OTPS funds, coordinate collection of travel and insurance fees from students for international seminars. Coordinate with Bursar’s office and FIT’s insurance broker to secure Travel Health Insurance and Trip Cancellation and Interruption insurance for all participants of international seminars.
Maintain departmental calendar and schedule meetings/appointments/events for chairperson including conferences, events, speaker series, etc. Create detailed semester calendars for students and faculty each semester, in collaboration with faculty.
Maintain departmental web pages, staying current on the web development programming and styles. Update website regularly with current information, and in the event of website redesigns.
Document tech needs of full-time faculty, adjuncts, and department, including identifying new software requirements, assisting faculty with LMS systems, learning new technology systems, management of virtual meetings with guest speakers, graphic design for department needs, and adding to and maintaining digital research repositories for students and faculty.

REQUIREMENTS
Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree required.
Minimum of 5 years’ appropriate experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

Master’s degree.
Experience maintaining and tracking a multitude of details for a variety of projects that occur concurrently.
Excellent organizational skills including tracking and follow-through.
Requires strong computer and internet research skills.
Strong customer service skills and the ability to work with a diverse population.
Provide a welcome and supportive environment for students, faculty, college community and industry.
Ability to compose reports, correspondence, and take notes at meetings.
Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing. Experience working independently and taking initiative.
Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information.
Ability to keyboard 55-60 WPM.
Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel. Knowledge of Brio, BANNER, Bi-Tech and working knowledge of Adobe Acrobat Professional 9 are preferred.

Salary Salary:

$74,494.11 per year The UCE-FIT Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) dictates the compensation, benefits, and conditions of employment.

Hiring Salary:

$74,494.11 per year with step increments per Salary Schedule 93, after one year of service and annually thereafter.

Work Schedule Days/Hours:

M-F, 10:30am-6:30pm, in person; work schedule subject to change based on needs of the department.
