Job Description

Project Coordinator / PPS 2.9 2.9 out of 5 stars Richland County, SC Job Responsibilities With our Agency’s mission to support the recovery of people with mental illnesses, we provide a complete array of medical and support services for children, adults, and families throughout South Carolina. This position is located at the Department of Mental Health Crafts-Farrow, Physical Plant Services, 7901 Farrow Rd, Columbia, SC 29203. As the Project Coordinator, you will perform planning or managerial duties for land areas and SC Department of Mental Health (DMH) operated facilities. Provides consulting services to various DMH-based buildings on all issues regarding maintenance, minor retrofit, construction-related procurement, and preventative maintenance. Assists PPS Project Managers and PPSE Office with administrative project activities. Manages the plan room files and digital files. Routinely updates drawings to maintain accurate working drawings of buildings and land. Manages or serves as a project team member on projects with limited scope and minimal complexity and risk. Acts as a first responder in emergencies to assess conditions at DMH facilities. Responsibilities include but are not limited to: Manages PPS’s plan room files and digital files. Provides project plans, including scanning existing plans and creating or updating CAD plans using AutoCAD for PPS Project Managers, Consultants, Contractors, and DMH staff as needed. Plans and conducts quarterly inspections for DMH’s Department of Inpatient Services Preventative Maintenance Inspection Program (DIS-PMIP). Develops, distributes, and maintains

reports. Coordinates with the DIS safety division to ensure compliance with Federal, State, and Regulatory Authority requirements. Manages and directs the initiation, planning, execution, control, and closeout phases of the project lifecycle for assigned construction/renovation projects. Determines the scope of work to be completed as directed. Provide the end-user/customer with the estimated project cost and schedule. Updates the end-user/customer on changes to project cost, milestones, and schedules frequently. Arranges work with either inside forces and/or outside commercial construction contractors. Upon completion of work, ensures the end-user/customer is satisfied with the project. Ensures OSE and State Procurement regulations are adhered to and followed. Assists in gathering support data for annual reports to include Real Property Report, Energy Report, SQFT Report, Master Closeout Report, Water Run-Off Report, etc.

Minimum and Additional Requirements State Minimum Requirement:

High school diploma and relevant experience.

Agency Minimum Requirement:

A high school diploma or equivalent and relevant experience in construction-related field. Must have a valid SC driver’s license and one (1) year of driving experience without a moving violation.

Preferred Qualifications Three years of experience creating or updating CAD plans using AutoCAD and five (5) years of relevant construction experience. Knowledge of electrical and mechanical systems. Bilingual abilities in English and Spanish (or another language) are a plus. Additional Comments The selected candidate will spend a significant amount of time in the field supervising construction projects throughout the state of South Carolina for the Department of Mental Health. This will require traveling around the state, inspecting buildings, and managing construction projects and construction contracts. Position is considered essential and may be called back during crises/disasters/emergencies. Must have general knowledge of project management principles and methodologies. Familiarity with project management software, project management principles, and methodologies. Knowledge of applicable project management terminology. Ability to effectively plan and organize work activities and prioritize task completion according to schedules and goals. Ability to exercise judgment and discretion. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships. Ability to interpret and apply laws, regulations, policies, and procedures. Ability to communicate effectively.
