June 30, 2025 About the Role Mobile Baykeeper is seeking a dynamic and strategic Community Engagement Director to lead our efforts in mobilizing communities across Coastal Alabama toward meaningful, measurable environmental change. This person will be a movement-builder, relationship-developer, and strategic team leader focused on improving water quality and community health across our region. The ideal candidate brings a bold vision for public engagement, deep relational instincts, and the operational skill to lead a small but powerful team driving regional advocacy, education, and volunteer mobilization. Key Responsibilities Lead and manage the Community Engagement Team to inspire action and deepen community ownership of clean water initiatives. (30%) Drive cultural change by helping communities and our internal team understand the root challenges to clean water and take organized action to overcome them. (15%) Develop and track written organizing plans that turn community ideas into action across projects and regions. (15%) Build and sustain relationships of trust with community leaders across race, geography, and economic background to drive collective action for environmental justice. (40%) What We’re Looking For Demonstrated success leading teams to bold, measurable goals Strong strategic planning and execution abilities A track record of building authentic, trust-based relationships across diverse communities Deep listening skills and cultural awareness Experience designing and implementing engagement strategies or movement plans Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to inspire and organize Resilience, self-direction, and time management in a fast-moving environment Familiarity with Coastal Alabama’s communities and environmental challenges (or the drive to learn quickly) Ability to connect with blue-collar and working-class narratives through personal experience or communication skill Comfort with or willingness to learn small watercraft operation
