Position Overview and Responsibilities:

Assistant Park Manager (#37000023) Ochlockonee River and Bald Point State Parks are looking for a dedicated park service professional to fill the resident Assistant Park Manager position. The APM position is located at Ochlockonee River State Park in District 1 and supervises 3 Park Rangers, along with temporary and seasonal OPS positions, across both Ochlockonee River and Bald Point State Parks.

ADMINISTRATION

•Participates in employee training, supervision, and discipline. Supervises the staff in fiscal compliance and purchasing procedures and policies. Ensure property procedures and policies are applied. Participates in the collective bargaining agreement and maintains good employee relations. Coordinates work assignments and schedules. Checks reports, fee collection, and misc. reports prepared by staff.

VISITOR SERVICES

•Coordinates interpretive programs, activities, and schedules. Meets the public, interprets the resources, facilities, and services. Resolves problems and provides good public relations.

RESOURCE MANAGEMENT

•Participates in and assists in supervision of resource management programs including ecological burning, hydrological management, invasive species removal efforts, and erosion control.

MAINTENANCE

•Identifies maintenance needs through daily inspections. Maintains maintenance schedules and supervises staff to ensure daily, weekly and annual maintenance is regularly performed. Supervises and assists with the maintenance of grounds and facilities including roads, trails, buildings, vehicles, and equipment.

PROTECTION

•Ensure park rules are enforced pertaining to all natural, historical, and archaeological facilities and resources and the use thereof for the enjoyment of the visitor. The duties of this position require the incumbent to reside on the property. Open and secure buildings and gates. Responsible for cash fund security. Informs visitors of potential hazards. Performs other related duties as required.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of:

Florida Park Service management, operations, and mission Resource management techniques Building maintenance and construction Heavy equipment maintenance and operation Skill in: Determining work priorities, assigning tasks, and ensuring completion of assignments Using a variety of hand tools, small engines, and power tools Ability to: Supervise people Communicate effectively verbally and in writing Prepare and maintain schedules and reports

Minimum Qualifications:

Valid driver’s license Reside on property Work rotating shifts including nights, weekends, and holidays

Position of Special Trust Requirement:

This position is designated as a Position of Special Trust in accordance with DEP Directive 422, Positions of Special Trust or Responsibility. Successful completion of background screening will be required for this position.

Preferred Qualifications:

Prescribed fire experience and pack test qualified.

Pay:

$3,657.34/month or $43,888.08/year

Ochlockonee River State Park is located on the scenic Ochlockonee River just 4 miles south of Sopchoppy and offers more than 500 acres with an array of recreational activities on land and water. The Ochlockonee River is a fantastic destination for boating, fishing, canoeing, kayaking, swimming, camping, picnicking and sunbathing. The beautiful trails through the pine flatwoods and oak thickets provide excellent hiking, birding and wildlife viewing opportunities. Facilities include restrooms, a fishing dock, picnic pavilions, accessible kayak launch, boat ramp, primitive youth camp, dump station and a thirty-site campground with water and electricity. Ochlockonee River State Park is managed together with Bald Point State Park. Located on Alligator Point where Ochlockonee Bay meets Apalachee Bay, Bald Point State Park offers a multitude of opportunities for land and water activities. Coastal marshes, pine flatwoods, and oak thickets foster a diversity of biological communities that make the park a popular destination for birding and wildlife viewing. A recent addition of over 7,000 acres makes Bald Point the second largest park in the panhandle at 12,154 acres. Bald Point offers beach access for swimming, sunbathing, fishing, canoeing, kayaking, and windsurfing. Facilities include restrooms, a fishing dock, and picnic pavilions. A newly constructed accessible kayak launch provides easy access to Chaires Creek and Tucker Lake. A full facility family campground and ranger station are planned and currently in the design phase.
