Job Summary Join the vibrant community at Florida Gulf Coast University in our Housing & Residence Life department! The Resident Assistant (RA) position is pivotal in creating a positive on-campus living experience and plays a key role in Housing & Residence Life. As an RA, you will build community, foster relationships, and help residents connect with each other and the FGCU campus through one-on-one conversations and large-scale events. Utilizing our Residential Curriculum, you will participate in engaging programs that fosters developmental experiences for our residents in the areas of Self Awareness, Community Engagement, Sustainability, and Equity. The RA role offers the chance to develop your leadership skills, gain valuable mentorship experience, and acquire skills that are useful for future careers. By becoming an RA, you will immerse yourself in campus life and make a meaningful impact on others! Job Description Typical duties include but are not limited to: Supports the department’s vision, mission, core values and residential curriculum. Builds community, mediates conflicts, and encourages healthy habits with residents. Participates in and attends university functions. Supports departmental programs and functions. Assists residents with understanding University policies and procedures and encourages residents to get involved. Aids with the evacuation of residents and shelter management during a hurricane or other incidents resulting in the closure and evacuation of residential communities. Completes all training requirements, including spring and fall training, prior to and while serving in the RA position. Participates in residence hall openings and closing including move-in and move-out. Completes 20 hours per week on assigned tasks within the building including front desk coverage and other various responsibilities. Serves on-call and conducts rounds of residence halls in their building/neighborhood. Provides emergency and crisis intervention. Reports facility issues and assists residents with maintenance requests.

Other Duties:

Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Additional Job Description Required Qualifications:

Current enrollment as a student at FGCU throughout the appointment. Be in good conduct standing within the university. Have a cumulative GPA of 2.50. Capable of standing and walking for extended periods, up to 4 hours at a time. Available for on-call duties with the ability to respond quickly to urgent tasks. Available to work nights and weekends.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Strong communication, interpersonal, and customer service skills. Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team. Attention to detail and a commitment to excellence. Familiar with basic computer software (Word, Excel, Google Docs, etc.). Understands the importance of managing multiple tasks and deadlines in a fast-paced environment. Ability to keep tasks and materials organized. Ability to identify issues and find solutions.
