Dormitory Manager Waldo Burton Boy’s Home 3320 South Carrollton Avenue, New Orleans, LA 70118 The Dorm Manager must be energized, child-centered, willingly committed to and enjoy living on campus of an active Boys’ Home. A Dorm Manager at Waldo Burton must have the appropriate parenting skills with a

personality and the ability to be receptive to training to recognize and work with boys with mild to mental health and behavioral problems. The Dorm Manager must be committed to the Team Concept and staff rapport, while demonstrating a stable temperament. They must demonstrate emotional stability while working under stress or in a crisis situation. They must have the highest level of integrity, honesty, and morality while on duty and while interacting with boys, co-workers and parents. The Dorm Manager must be able to judiciously perform entire tasks that would normally be performed by a responsible parent. Dorm Managers must communicate with the boys their families and the Home’s staff. Punctuality, attendance, and consistency are critical to success being a Dorm Manager and group life with the boys.

REQUIREMENTS
  • Must be willing to live on campus in an active Boys’ Home.
  • Must be able to pass a background check and drug test.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and be vehicle insurable.
  • Must be able to walk up and down stairs.
  • Must have the temperament and emotional stability to work with youth under stress or in a crisis situation.
  • Must be able to work inside and outside with the boys.
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule when needed.
  • Must be able to work with entire staff in a professional and productive manner with the boys’ interest first.
  • Must have a high school diploma. A college degree in psychology, social work or work in an applicable field is preferred.
  • Punctuality and consistency are critical.
RESPONSIBILITIES
  • The Direct Care Counselor has the responsibility of supervising and caring for the Boys in their assigned dorm, and other dorms, by following the routine and guidelines of the Home.
  • Shared supervision over the integrated groups during meal preparation, morning chores, group activities.
  • Supervising boys to make sure dorm and rooms are clean.
  • Being a positive role model and a mentor for the boys.
  • Supervising the boys in laundry duty, room cleaning and dorm cleaning.
  • Each Dorm Manager is required to attend staff meetings and training sessions when scheduled by the Program Director.
  • Must be able to respond to directives and training with a positive approach, while supporting the mission and policies of the program.
HOURS:

Sunday

  • Thursdays from 4pm
  • 12am (on call from 12am
  • 6am) Monday
  • Friday from 6am
  • 8am (wake up duty
  • overtime)) Monday
  • Thursday from 3pm
  • 4pm (drive time)
