Position Summary The Associate Vice President and Chief Information Officer (CIO) will serve as a senior level executive leader providing information technology and library services vision and leadership to the SUNY Cortland Information Resources (IR) team. Home to approximately 80 employees, Information Resources includes Information Systems and Security, Campus Technology Services, Networking and Telecommunications, and Memorial Library. The CIO leads these areas along with strategically identified internal and external partnerships to most effectively develop, communicate, and execute a comprehensive IR strategy supporting the mission of the university. The CIO will establish and maintain collaborative and effective relationships with administration, faculty, staff, and students while demonstrating respect and advocacy for diversity in all its forms, including thought and perspective. Experience Cortland dives deep into the region’s offerings Major Responsibilities Responsible for developing and leading SUNY Cortland’s information resources organization in providing strategic and operational planning across the university that supports and aligns with the institution’s overall mission and vision. This includes security, business intelligence, development and support, education, infrastructure, classroom technology, and other technical and library services
Responsible for the effective management of assigned faculty and staff which includes leading, managing, supervising and developing employees in a manner that is most appropriate to each individual and consistent with respective collective bargaining agreements and university policies and procedures
Provide a level of leadership that promotes excitement, confidence and a cooperative attitude among campus community members as well as a work culture that encourages faculty staff members to appreciate diversity and embrace opportunity in their respective areas
Responsible for hiring and making recommendations for renewal or permanent appointment as appropriate. Develop and discuss performance programs and conduct performance evaluations in a timely manner. Collaborate with the human resources office to resolve and address issues or concerns regarding employee performance, misconduct, or other personnel related concerns
Responsible for maintaining an efficient organization structure that best meets the rapidly changing technology and library environment and provide ongoing development and training to all IR faculty and staff to keep pace with technological advancements and library services
Ensure compliance with all relevant data privacy regulations and security standards
Lead the development, implementation and oversight of appropriate budgetary planning and appropriation to promote ongoing security, innovation, stability and growth of the university’s information resources and technology services. This includes the formulation and presentation of the technology fee
Assess and communicate the benefits and risks associated with new technologies, IR projects, infrastructure for new builds and renovations, and other IR investments
Maintain clear and consistent communication on behalf of IR ensuring that appropriate departments are made aware of campus needs and the campus is informed about relevant priorities and activities within IR based on user input through shared governance processes
Maintain and manage contracts with external vendors
Serve as a member of the Provost’s Cabinet, President’s Advisory Council, and serves on various other university committees, university-wide committees, and appropriate industry specific professional associations Functional and Supervisory Relationships Reports to:

Administrative Assistant II Required Qualifications Master’s degree in information technology, computer science, or related field; or a master’s degree in business administration, public administration, or related field
Minimum of ten years’ professional experience demonstrating progressively responsible leadership experience and supervision within a complex IT environment
Demonstrated experience in developing and executing strategic IT plans aligned with institutional goals
Experience leading complex, major change initiatives
Proven track record of successful project management and stakeholder engagement Preferred Qualifications Experience working directly with people from diverse racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds and incorporating the perspectives of multiple communities, including historically underrepresented communities, students, faculty, and staff in the consideration of impacts and outcomes of a decision-making process
