This position is responsible for the facilitation of Health Services of the Head Start / Early Head Start program. The position is responsible for collaboration on the development and implementation of the program, tracking and recordkeeping, community relations, and outreach. The position could involve the provision of direct services in the health areas only if the individual is licensed, certified, or registered as such in the state of service, provides content area training and technical supervision to other agency staff, and ensures health services are supported by staff/consultants with training and experience in public health, nursing, health education, maternal and child health, or health administration. Responsibilities Monitors compliance with the Head Start Program Performance Standards and childcare licensing guidelines related to health and safety. Emergency Management System in collaboration with staff responsible for family and community partnerships. Assists in developing a list of local health and related resources and defines procedures for effectively using these resources. Initiates and establishes working relationships with local providers through contractual agreements as appropriate. Develop and implement a plan and system to continuously monitor and evaluate program activities. Keep complete records and documentation of all contacts. Implements a system for tracking, monitoring, and analyzing health records and data to ensure adequate health service.
Health Services Advisory Committee:
Responsible for the planning, convening, and implementing policies and/or procedures of the semi-annual Health Services Advisory Committee meetings. Identifies and is
Knowledgeable of Health Resources:
Establishes relationships and develops a thorough knowledge of health resources for families, including Medicaid, the state CHIP Program, state health services, and other community resources that assist families in establishing a medical home. Establishes, Negotiates, and Monitors Contracts with
Health Service Providers:
Establishes contracts with health professionals to provide services to the Head Start/Early Head Start program in such areas as vision referrals, child health screenings/exams, dental services, mental health services, and others as necessary. Contracts may include consultants and/or volunteer services.
Health Education Curriculum:
Responsible for assuring the program implements a developing developmentally appropriate health education curriculum in conjunction with the staff person responsible for early childhood education to ensure services for children and parents are integrated into program activities. Oversees child safety sections of performance standards, including fire drills, first aid kits, medication administration systems, and safety committee systems in collaboration with the staff person in charge of facilities.
Health Training:
Establish a yearly system of training and health education for staff and parents, including CPR, First Aid, nutrition, child abuse and neglect identification and reporting, etc. Serves as the lead for the Health and Safety Committee Qualifications A minimum educational requirement of a bachelor’s degree in nursing, Public Health, Health Administration, or a related area with two years of experience in securing and individualizing services for children. Experience and training in public health, nursing, health education, maternal and child health, or health administration are preferred. Experience working in public health or nutrition arenas and working with low-income clients is preferred. Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to engage effectively with diverse audiences. Knowledge of community resources related to health services is desirable. Ability to work independently as well as part of a team in a fast-paced environment. Strong organizational skills with attention to detail.
