DIRECTOR OF FINANCE POSITION OVERVIEW
Admiral Farragut Academy, a respected K-12 private, non-profit school located on the beautiful Saint Petersburg, FL intercostal waterway, seeks a knowledgeable and dedicated Director of Finance to lead the financial operation of the school under the guidance of the COO. This position is responsible for all aspects of the Accounting and Financial operations of the Academy, including financial planning, budgeting, cash management, record-keeping, monthly and annual closing processes, oversight of all financial and compliance audits, development of a financial and operating strategy, monitoring internal controls designed to preserve school assets, and the proactive and timely reporting of accurate financial results. The Director of Finance supervises the Business Office, payroll processing, Campus Store, and third-party services such as the dining hall food service. This position is a member of the Senior AFA Leadership Team. This is a full-time, twelve-month position that reports directly to the COO as well as the President and Head of School. Additionally, the Director of Finance will maintain a close working relationship with the Board Treasurer and Finance Committee in the areas of financial planning, budgeting, and reporting and analysis of operating results.
REQUIRED SKILLS/ABILITIES
- Ability to work independently
- Willingness to have hands-on involvement in daily activities
- Excellent verbal and written communication, interpersonal, and customer service skills
- Exceptional organizational and time management skills and a proven ability to meet deadlines, manage multiple priorities, and pivot when necessary
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with proactive attention to detail
- Proficiency in Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) as it relates to nonprofit entities
- Experience with general ledger enterprise accounting systems, preferably Blackbaud
- Enthusiastic about working in a private school environment
- Ability to be on-call and respond quickly and effectively to emergency situations and setbacks
- Ability to work effectively with Board members, leadership, employees, vendors, and other stakeholders
- Demonstrate a high level of proficiency in the use of Microsoft Excel and Word applications
- Possess a demonstrated ability to prepare and communicate executive and board level financial presentations
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting
- Certified Public Accountant strongly preferred
- A minimum of 7 years’ experience in Accounting/Finance
- Experience working in a non-profit environment
- Experience using Blackbaud preferred but not required
- Ability to pass a
DOJ/FDLE
criminal background check, a credit check (demonstrating fiscal responsibility), and a drug screen
- Legally authorized to work in the USA
- An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job may be acceptable in lieu of the requirements listed above.
