  • Be part of making an impact in public health alongside dedicated people just like you As a Maternal Mortality Review Abstractor within the Division of Women, Children & Nursing, Women’s Health section at the Georgia Department of Public Health , you will join a dedicated group of public health professionals that help support the overall mission and vision of protecting lives of Georgian residents in a variety of ways.

Job Responsibilities Review and abstract information from death certificates, birth certificates, fetal death certificates, medical and hospitalization records, autopsies and social service records on maternal deaths. Contact hospitals and provider offices to request medical records. Write case narratives for the Maternal Mortality Review Committee based on clinical documentation in the records. Apply an understanding of social determinants contributing to maternal mortality to case abstraction. Enter medical record data and committee decision form data into the Maternal Mortality Review Information Application (MMRIA). Work collaboratively with the Key Informant Interviewer to identify key informants and collaborate on case narratives. Participate in Maternal Mortality Review Committee meetings. Participate in monthly meetings with abstractors, Women’s Health program staff, and Maternal and Child Health Epidemiology staff. Minimum Qualifications Doctorate or Master’s degree in nursing, public health or related field from an accredited college or university AND Three years of professional nursing management/supervisory experience AND current Georgia Registered Professional Nurse license AND CPR certified OR Bachelor’s degree in nursing from an accredited college or university AND Seven years of nursing experience AND current Georgia Registered Professional Nurse license AND CPR certified. Preferred Qualifications Master’s degree in nursing, Public Health or related field from an accredited college or university AND Four years of PHN experience Additional Information The Georgia Department of Public Health commissioner and leaders encourage all employees to engage in regular wellness activities and to make lifestyle choices that promote health and well-being.
