ASSISTANT TO THE PUBLIC WORKS DIRECTOR

The City of Sanford is seeking a dedicated, detail-orientated, and motivated Executive Assistant to support the Public Works Director in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. This is an exciting opportunity to be a part of a collaborative and forward-thinking team that plays a key role in maintaining and improving Sanford’s vital infrastructure. As the Executive Assistant, you’ll be the organizational backbone of the department – coordinating high-level administrative and operational tasks, managing communications, tracking budgets and grants, supporting training and safety efforts, and helping to keep the department running efficiently. You’ll be a trusted liaison between the Public Works Director and city staff, vendors, contractors and the public. In this rewarding role you will be a key player in supporting critical infrastructure and public services, collaborate across city departments and external partners, make an impact through project coordination, problem-solving, and efficient processes. You will be joining a respectful and supportive workplace where your skills are valued. Three plus years of experience in administrative and office work of a progressively responsible nature involving extensive contact with the public is required (municipal or public works setting is a plus). An ideal applicant will have strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills. Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Outlook, and administrative software (experience with MUNIS and/or IworQ is a bonus) is a must. The ability to maintain confidentiality, prioritize tasks, and work independently is highly valued. A high school diploma or GED is required and an Associate’s degree is preferred; any equivalent combination of experience and training considered in lieu of the above.
