Director of Communications 4.0 4.0 out of 5 stars 101 NW Sni A Bar Pkwy, Grain Valley, MO 64029 The Grain Valley R-5 School District is seeking a highly qualified and collaborative leader for the role of Director of Communications. This position is responsible for the coordination of the district’s communications program, promoting the district’s goals, including the development of accurate and timely internal and external communication and information processes, promoting an informed and engaged community. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Promotes positive school, district, and community relations. Serves as the public information officer and designated spokesperson for the district with the media. Supports leadership in responses to inquiries received from the community and staff. Communicates effectively with the media and plans meetings and activities to enhance dialogue with the media. Provides public relations counsel for district staff. Uses effective communication strategies in dealing with staff, parents, and the community, including articulating the mission and goals of the district. Writes for a variety of audiences and purposes, including community newsletter, staff newsletter, district website, magazine, news releases, and other print materials. Photographs and captures video recordings of major district and school events for use in district materials. Drafts communications in the event of a crisis. Attends school board meetings and communicates priority needs and decisions of the Board with stakeholders. Assists district leaders in the preparation of materials for special activities, speeches, and presentations. Manages and updates the district website. Coordinates the design and printing of district publications. Coordinates the district’s social media strategy and implementation. Coordinates the use of electronic parent notification systems. Collects and analyzes data to advise school and district leaders in the improvement of communications and relevant aspects of stakeholder satisfaction. Provides staff training on communications and related topics. Coordination of community engagement programming. Required Experience, Skills, and Abilities Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in English, journalism, communications, or a related field, and/or experience in journalism, communications, or a related field, required. Thorough knowledge of media operations and public relations functions. Ability to define problems, collect data, verify facts, make valid conclusions, and deal with abstract concepts. Excellent oral and written communication skills, including writing, editing, and public speaking. Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with families, school administrators, teachers, staff, and associates. Expertise with desktop publishing software. Work Environment Reports to the Assistant Superintendent of Academic & Student Services. 12-month contract. Salary starts at $87,210 – $104,224.
