Position Summary Information
Responsibilities 1. To provide leadership to the Mississippi Delta National Heritage Area, a cultural heritage development partnership with the National Park Service for and 18-county area.
2. Manages development activities, oversees day-to-day administrative activities, and acts as the face of the organization to local, regional, national, and international communities.
3. Develop and implement mission-driven programs and financial plans in coordination with the MDNHA Board of Directors and staff.
4. Ensure alignment of activities with the MDNHA’s Management Plan/Strategic Plan.
5. Establish and maintain relationships with diverse organizations to support MDNHA’s success.
6. Engage and empower Mississippi Delta communities in preserving and sharing their cultural heritage.
7. Develop and implement outreach strategies to increase awareness of MDNHA’s programs.
8. Identify and secure funding sources for MDNHA initiatives.
9. Maintain compliance with federal and non-federal funding match requirements.
10. Implement fundraising strategies to ensure MDNHA’s long-term financial sustainability.
11. Oversee financial management to ensure adequate resources for operations.
12. Develop and manage annual work plans and budgets in collaboration with the MDNHA Board.
13. Recruit, supervise, and develop MDNHA staff and volunteers.
14. Perform additional responsibilities as needed to support MDNHA’s mission and operations.
Qualifications 1. Ph.D. preferred, with expertise in cultural heritage development (preservation, education, interpretation, tourism, advocacy).
2. Experience in program administration, community engagement, and strategic planning.
3. Strong background in grant writing, fundraising, and financial management.
4. Previous experience managing a diverse team and working with stakeholder groups.
5. Strong leadership, communication, and collaboration skills.
6. Ability to navigate complex cultural and racial dynamics in the Mississippi Delta.
7. Experience in engaging with legislators, funders, and the public.
8. Knowledge of heritage tourism, historic preservation, and cultural interpretation.
9. Proficiency in managing budgets and securing funding sources.
10. Requires regional, national, and occasional international travel.
11. Work occurs in office settings, community events, and outdoor environments.
12. Directly supervises five staff members, with authority over hiring, performance evaluations, and disciplinary actions.
Salary Commensurate with experience, qualifications, and university’s resources.
Minimum Qualifications 1. Bachelor’s degree in History, Business Management or related field, with expertise in cultural heritage development (preservation, education, interpretation, tourism, advocacy).
2. Experience in program administration, community engagement, and strategic planning.
3. Strong background in grant writing, fundraising, and financial management.
4. Previous experience managing a diverse team and working with stakeholder groups.
5. Strong leadership, communication, and collaboration skills.
