The Statewide Law Enforcement Accreditation Coordinator (Public Safety Support Manager) is a key position needed for advancing the operational excellence, accountability, and professionalism of law enforcement agencies across the state. This role is instrumental in managing and promoting the state’s law enforcement accreditation program, ensuring agencies adhere to rigorous standards that improve service quality, public trust, and operational efficiency. The coordinator acts as both an instructor and resource for agencies seeking accreditation, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and compliance with best practices. Some of the Key Responsibilities include but are not limited to: 1. Program Management and Development
- Oversee the statewide accreditation program’s design, implementation, and administration, ensuring it aligns with state standards and national guidelines.
- Develop, update, and disseminate accreditation guidelines, policies, and resources to assist agencies in the accreditation process.
- Monitor the progress of participating agencies, providing feedback and support to help them achieve and maintain accreditation status.
- Identify opportunities to expand participation in the program and enhance its impact on law enforcement performance statewide. 2. Agency Support and Consultation
- Act as a subject matter expert on accreditation, advising law enforcement agencies on policies, procedures, and operational changes required to meet accreditation standards.
- Conduct on-site visits to assess compliance, review files, and provide hands-on support for accreditation efforts.
- Provide training, workshops, and individualized consultations to educate agency personnel on the accreditation process and benefits.
- Troubleshoot challenges faced by agencies in achieving compliance, offering practical solutions and strategic guidance. 3. Liaison to National Accreditation Bodies
- Serve as the state’s primary point of contact with national accreditation organizations, such as the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA).
- Participate in national conferences, workshops, and meetings to stay current on accreditation standards and innovations.
- Act as a representative for the state in discussions about law enforcement best practices and emerging trends. 4. Compliance Assessment and Quality Assurance
- Assist agencies in preparing for accreditation assessments by reviewing documentation, conducting mock assessments, and providing constructive feedback.
- Serve as an assessor or team leader for accreditation evaluations as required by national or state agreements.
- Maintain records of accreditation compliance, ensuring agencies adhere to established timelines and corrective action plans when necessary. 5. Advocacy and Outreach
- Promote the benefits of accreditation to law enforcement leaders, government officials, and community stakeholders.
- Develop and deliver presentations at conferences, meetings, and public events to encourage program participation and highlight success stories.
- Advocate for continuous improvement in law enforcement practices, emphasizing the role of accreditation in enhancing public trust and operational transparency.

Office-Based Work:
The coordinator spends approximately 80% of their time in an office setting managing correspondence, reviewing files, and conducting virtual or in-person consultations.

Field Work:
Regular travel is required to visit agencies, conduct inspections, and support accreditation efforts in diverse environments, including outdoor settings and occasionally adverse weather conditions.
- This is a non-state service, time-limited NS-14 position with the Mississippi Department of Public Safety.

Technical Skills:
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Teams) and accreditation management software.

- Attention to detail and problem-solving skills to ensure agencies meet and maintain rigorous accreditation standards. Preferred Qualifications Typically requires a Bachelor’s degree and 7 or more years of relevant experience. The agency’s preferred qualifications are:
- A bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, public administration, law enforcement, or a related field is required.
- A master’s degree in a relevant field is preferred.
Professional Experience:
- Five to ten years of experience in law enforcement, public safety, accreditation management or related field.
- Familiarity with accreditation programs, such as CALEA or state-specific programs, is highly desirable.
- Preferred has certification in Accreditation Manager and Assessor Training, with eligibility to serve as an Assessor or Team Leader under national accreditation standards.
