Job Description Join Our Team as a Downtown Manager for the City of Burlington!
Are you ready to take the lead in managing the heart of our Downtown? We’re seeking a dedicated individual to oversee the day-to-day operations of our Downtown – a 16 block municipal service district (MSD). As the Downtown Manager, you’ll play a crucial role in various downtown development-related activities, project management, non-profit partner coordination event planning and execution, communications and support services for Downtown Burlington, its businesses, property owners and visitors.
Expected Hiring Range:
$52,520.00 – $57,772.00. A starting salary above the range listed may be considered for highly qualified individuals not to exceed the maximum of the grade.
Examples of Duties Non-Profit Board & Volunteer Committee Management:
Organizing and managing the Board of Directors and multiple volunteer committees to achieve NC Main Street objectives.
Main Street Accreditation & Compliance:
Ensuring compliance with all components required for continued Main Street accreditation.
Coordination & Planning:
Coordinating and planning initiatives with various City departments, the Alamance Chamber of Commerce, Burlington Downtown Corporation, educational institutions, and local/state/federal agencies.
Relationship Building & Stakeholder Engagement:
Developing and maintaining positive relationships with downtown merchants and corporate partners.
Budget & Grant Oversight:
Managing the budget and grant programs for the municipal service district and Burlington Downtown Corporation.
Public Sector & Private Sector Collaboration:
Collaborating with public and private sector organizations on beautification, cleanliness, public improvement projects, events, public art, and marketing initiatives.
Reporting & Publications:
Preparing comprehensive annual reports, marketing brochures, and other publications as needed.
Marketing & Creative Services:
Writing and creating website content, marketing materials, promotional work, and presentation materials.
Inquiries & Public Relations:
Responding to inquiries regarding available buildings, events, or media interest, ensuring timely and professional communication.
Qualifications Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Local Government & Economic Development Knowledge:
Strong understanding of local government laws, regulations, and economic development principles.
Social Media & Public Relations Expertise:
In-depth knowledge of social media promotion, destination marketing, and public relations strategies.
Relationship Building & Stakeholder Engagement:
Proven ability to foster and maintain effective working relationships with City officials, non-profit board members, volunteers, public officials, employees, developers, corporate agents, and local/state/federal representatives.
Flexibility & Availability:
Willingness to travel and work irregular hours, including evenings and weekends, to accommodate event schedules and activities.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, Economic Development, Communications, or a related field, with at least three (3) years in a professional office environment (preferably in government or non-profit) with experience in communication and project management; or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job. Working Conditions:
Work in this class is described as being somewhat sedentary with some physical exertion to complete tasks during event prep, set-up, and breakdown.
Work typically involves the ability to physically perform the basic life operational functions of reaching, standing, walking, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing and repetitive motions.
Employee regularly operates a variety of machinery and equipment, including telephones, computers, calculators, copiers, facsimile machines, etc.
Work necessitates visual acuity to determine the accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness of work assigned in preparing and analyzing figures, accounting, transcription, computer terminal viewing and extensive reading. Working conditions include inside environmental conditions but can include work outside for events.
