The Arc of North Carolina is seeking a strategic and knowledgeable Director of Housing to lead and grow our statewide housing initiatives for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD) and mental illness. This senior leadership role is ideal for someone with proven expertise in HUD regulations, housing management and development, and affordable housing finance, combined with a passion for creating meaningful, stable housing solutions for underserved communities. You will be responsible for overseeing all facets of The Arc’s housing program, including operations, regulatory compliance, team supervision, strategic planning, stakeholder engagement, and project development.

Key Responsibilities:

Provide vision and leadership for The Arc of NC’s housing division, ensuring alignment with the organization’s mission and long-term goals. Oversee the management of HUD-funded and other affordable housing projects. Ensure full compliance with HUD and other federal, state, and local housing regulations. Supervise departmental leaders and support staff to deliver on program goals with excellence. Cultivate partnerships with HUD officials, community agencies, tenants, families, developers, and other key stakeholders. Develop and manage project budgets, funding proposals, and sustainability plans. Identify new opportunities for housing development and bring proposals forward to the CEO, and Board of Directors as needed.

Qualifications:

Extensive experience in affordable housing management, with strong working knowledge of HUD programs (e.g., multi-family, 202, 811, project-based vouchers, Key funds, tax-credit properties). Demonstrated management and leadership experience, ideally within the nonprofit or housing sectors. Strong background in regulatory compliance, program development, team building and community engagement. Experience overseeing statewide housing initiatives is a plus. Commitment to the values of inclusion, self-determination, and community living for people with I/DD and mental illness.
