QUESTIONS The City of Wilmington is an Equal Opportunity Employer. Position Description The purpose of this position is to be responsible for the construction, installation, repair, and maintenance of City facilities and equipment to ensure proper operation. This is accomplished by performing journey man level repair and maintenance for electrical, heating, air condition, plumbing, door and door hardware, structure and fire systems; maintaining drawings and files on all equipment; purchasing materials; meeting with contractors, vendors, and suppliers; receiving bids on projects; and completing preventative maintenance. Other duties include maintaining remote controlled gates, troubleshooting, painting, general carpentry, installing windows and glass, and assisting with weather related pick-up. Typical Tasks Performs facility repairs and maintenance by replacing motors and pumps, installing lighting, operating heavy and light equipment, running electric wiring, installing and repairing water and waste water facilities, and checking and changing HVAC air filters. Maintains repairs and installs electrical equipment by reading electrical blue prints, replacing lighting fixtures, designing electrical systems, replacing circuit breakers, ordering electrical parts, troubleshooting, replacing outlets and light switches, and checking circuits to ensure preventative maintenance. Performs general maintenance and special projects by painting, plumbing, repairing walls and office furniture, replacing glass and windows, assisting other departments, and preparing reports. Qualifications Education and
Experience:
Vocational/Technical training or certificate obtained beyond high school and 1 year of experience OR a high school diploma and at least 2 years of experience.
Position Requirements :
Valid Driver’s License. This position is required to work on-call for emergency maintenance needs, as well as nights and weekends as needed. This position is considered essential to the operations of the City and will be required to perform work before, during and after inclement weather or other emergencies.
Ability to communicate and foster a cooperative and professional culture. Knowledge of materials, methods, and the tools involved in the repair of buildings or maintenance needs. Knowledge of relevant equipment, policies, procedures, and strategies to promote effective security for the protection of people, data, property, and the City.
Required to have strong computer skills for use of work order management system and daily work and training requirements.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Exerting 50-100 lbs. occasionally, 10-25 lbs. frequently, or up to 10-20 lbs. constantly.
WORKING CONDITIONS
This position generally requires work to be performed both indoors and outdoors, as well as in a shop setting.
