Director of Public Safety 4.0 4.0 out of 5 stars Kerr, NC JOB The Director of Public Safety is a key administrative leader responsible for the strategic oversight and daily operations of campus safety at Alamance Community College. This role is heavily focused on administrative functions, including budgeting, policy and procedure development, regulatory compliance, and departmental planning. The Director ensures a safe, secure, and accessible learning environment for all students, faculty, staff, and visitors.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Lead and manage all administrative aspects of the Public Safety Department, including budget development and oversight, resource allocation, and departmental strategic planning.
Develop, implement, and enforce campus safety policies and procedures that align with federal, state, and local regulations.
Supervise and evaluate department personnel; provide leadership that fosters a culture of accountability, professionalism, and community service.
Serve as the primary liaison with local law enforcement and emergency response agencies.
Communicate effectively through oral briefings, written reports, and public presentations to a variety of audiences, including college leadership, employees, students, and the public.
Participate in emergency preparedness planning and coordinate campus responses during crises.
Administer and monitor the college’s surveillance system, ensuring proper coverage and functionality to support safety initiatives.
Enforces and oversees the enforcement of North Carolina General Statutes to maintain order and protect campus property.
Prepares and reviews search warrants as needed for investigations.
Manages and oversees the college’s emergency alert system, ensuring timely communication during emergencies.
Conducts and supervises investigations into criminal activity, violations of ACC policies, motor vehicle accidents, safety incidents, and injuries.
Proactively investigates and manages threat assessments involving students, visitors, or employees to prevent potential security issues.
Serves as an active member of the ACC Threat Assessment Team and the
ACC CARES
Team, contributing to the safety and well-being of the campus community.
Supervises Clery Act compliance efforts, including accurate reporting and record-keeping.
Coordinates safety efforts with the Alamance-Burlington School System’s safety coordinator for the Early College Program on campus.
Plans and supervises security for large events hosted by ACC, both on and off-campus, ensuring a safe environment for attendees.
Develops and regularly updates emergency response plans to prepare for various campus incidents.
Serves on the Inclement Weather Team, contributing to decisions related to campus closures and safety precautions.
Serves as a member of the mental crisis response team, ensuring appropriate and timely intervention in critical situations.
Writes and manages grants, federal funding applications, and other revenue-generating initiatives to support Public Safety operations.
This department also oversees: the issuance of ACC identification cards and parking passes, ensuring secure and efficient processes and the college’s locksmithing and access control systems, maintaining secure building access and key distribution protocols.
Other duties as assigned.
