Position Summary Wingate University seeks a Director of the Office of International Programs to provide leadership and management of study abroad, 300+ F1 visa international students, internationally focused programming, as well as oversight of budgets. The Director advocates for comprehensive internationalization through a variety of duties on and off campus. This position begins as early as August 1, 2025. Duties and Responsibilities
Manages and develop all aspects of Wingate faculty-led study abroad programs
Develops policies and procedures for internal office & external operations abroad
Hires, supervises, trains, and evaluates office staff
Provides financial stewardship of program budgets
Evaluates & mitigates risk for programs abroad & update crisis management protocol
Manages and oversees cross-campus collaboration with faculty, academic units, and administrative offices on education abroad initiatives and best practices
Plans, implements, and maintains study abroad software and website to digitize and modernize office operations
Advises study abroad student applicants as appropriate
Advises international students on complex and changing F1 visa regulations as needed
Serves as an additional DSO for the institution
Assists with processing international admissions
Establishes and maintains professional networks with relevant local, state, national, and international organizations and agencies
Works with the undergraduate admissions office and all graduate programs on establishing policies and procedures for international student admissions
Establishes and maintains effective communication with stakeholders by providing updates, reports, and program marketing efforts internally & externally
Holds permanent standing on International Studies Committee and work with faculty chairs on yearly W’international proposal process
Other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications
Master’s degree required for director-level position – Higher Ed Administration, international/global studies/education, intercultural communication, or related field preferred
Prior experience (2+ years) assisting with administration of an international education office at an institution of higher education
Experience with the management of study abroad programs beyond the student assistant level
US Citizenship or permanent residency status required per USCIS guidelines for serving as DSO
Excellent oral, written, computer, planning, and organizational skills; must be detail-oriented
Knowledge of US and international higher education systems
Previous domestic and international travel, as well as significant time studying and/or working abroad required
Ability to work effectively in cross-cultural environments
Preferred Qualifications
Proficiency in a foreign language
Knowledge of F1 visa regulations
Prior participation in NAFSA and other related professional organizations
Physical Requirements In addition to the physical requirements of a standard office environment, international travel requires prolonged endurance – carrying luggage, longer than average days while abroad (ex. 3am trips to the airport, 18 hour days), jet lag, etc. Physically demanding schedule with students during 10-day international programs that may involve 50+ miles of walking, climbing, and lifting.
