This position will manage the constituent response process including developing templates and ensuring timely and appropriate responses to letters, emails, and phone calls from North Carolinians about a variety of issues, including providing support and referrals to victims of crime.

Responsibilities include:

  • Leading and directing the work of staff on constituent response processes, including training new staff.
  • Developing content and drafting letters, which may include conferring with subject matter experts around the department or conducting secondary research.
  • Using database to organize and respond to emails.
  • Entering in and sorting mail as needed.
  • Answering phone calls and responding to messages to direct people to services, which may include talking with frustrated people.
  • Managing the Animal Welfare Hotline, including routing complaints to the correct agencies and providing resources for constituents with animal welfare concerns outside of NC DOJ work.
  • Updating content on the NC DOJ website for the Public Protection Section.
  • Tracking and recording work as appropriate.
THE RECRUITMENT RANGE FOR THIS POSITION IS LIMITED TO

$55,283 – $75,000.Salary determination is based upon the candidate’s education and experience related to the position, as well as departmental budget and equity considerations.

EXAMPLE OF DUTIES

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with representatives of the communications media and the general public.

Ability to use independent judgment and to manage and impart confidential information.

Thorough knowledge of journalistic, communication, and/or publication principles and techniques for disseminating information to the public through a variety of media.

Considerable knowledge of the principles and methods of planning an agency public information program.

Transcripts:

Degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions. A copy of your transcripts indicating the degree received can be uploaded with your application.

Credit for foreign degrees will only be given if verification of degree certification is attached to your application. Transcripts for foreign degrees have to be evaluated by an organization like World Education Services to determine US equivalency.

Any licenses or certificates must be included in the appropriate section of the application form.

Veterans Preference:

Applicants seeking Veteran’s Preference must attach a copy of their DD-214 or discharge orders.

Applicants seeking National Guard Preference must attach a NGB 23A (RPAS) if you are a current member of the NC National Guard in good standing. If you are a former member of the NC National Guard who served for at least 6 years and was discharged under honorable conditions, you must attach either a DD256 or NGB 22.
