The Domestic Violence Court Advocate is a member of InterAct’s Victim Services team which provides direct support to survivors of domestic violence and/or sexual assault, with a focus on individuals seeking relief through civil court proceedings. The Court Advocate must be a strong, client-centered professional who upholds InterAct’s core values and commitment to survivor advocacy. Key Responsibilities Provide court advocacy for clients in both district criminal and civil court proceedings. Assist clients in preparing Domestic Violence Protective Orders. Deliver crisis counseling to survivors at InterAct’s main office and in the courthouse. Support clients through the criminal and civil court processes, including needs assessment, referrals, and resource navigation. Educate and guide survivors through legal procedures and available protections. Serve as liaison between clients and court personnel, law enforcement, and other partners. Participate in the Wake County Domestic Violence Task Force meetings. Help coordinate and facilitate the PEACE Support Group. Conduct volunteers, staff, and community training as needed. Accurately document all client services and data in the Empower R/Client database in a timely manner. Collaborate with courthouse partners to enhance access to services for survivors. Submit monthly and other required reports to supervisors. Attend staff meetings, retreats, in-service trainings, and supervision with the Associate Director of Victim Services. Supervise, train, and evaluate court advocate volunteers and interns in coordination with the Volunteer Services Coordinator. Adhere to agency confidentiality standards and ethical guidelines. Complete onboarding training and obtain at least 20 hours of continuing education annually. Foster a welcoming, trauma-informed environment with empathy and professionalism. Coordinate with internal and external programs to ensure continuity of care. Participate in the on-call rotation for crisis lines and walk-in support, including evenings, weekends, and holidays. Provide advocacy and response at hospitals and/or the Solace Center when needed. Represent InterAct through community engagement, training, and partnerships. Comply with all agency policies, professional standards, and codes of conduct. Perform additional duties as needed to support program operations Qualifications Strong ability to multitask and prioritize in a dynamic environment. Demonstrated empathy, nonjudgmental approach, and emotional stability. Calm and diplomatic under pressure; skilled in crisis intervention. Sound judgment and maturity in working with diverse populations. Effective both as a team member and independently. Strong problem-solving and conflict resolution abilities. Comfortable working independently in evolving systems with multiple stakeholders. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Basic computer proficiency required. Ability to drive on behalf of the agency with reliable transportation and a clear driving record. Bachelor’s degree in social work, Psychology, Education, Criminal Justice, or a related human services field (master’s preferred or equivalent experience). At least (2) years of experience working with victims of domestic violence, sexual assault or a related field such as social services, counseling, or legal assistance. Experience in crisis intervention, preferably with survivors of domestic violence and/or sexual assault. Familiarity with legal processes related to domestic violence cases, including restraining orders, court procedures and victim rights. Successful completion of a background check, including clearance from the North Carolina Department of Motor Vehicles. Compliance with InterAct’s Communicable Disease Policy is required.
