Alcohol Law Enforcement Division is currently accepting applications for an Administrative Assistant position. Selected applicant will report to Alcohol Law Enforcement Headquarters located at 525 N. Greenfield Parkway, Suite 140, Garner, North Carolina 27529. This position is 100% in person with no teleworking option.

The salary grade for this position is NC13 . State employees are encouraged to apply for positions of interest even if the salary grade is the same as, or lower than, their current position. If selected for this position, a new salary will be recalculated taking into consideration the quantity of relevant education and experience, funding availability, and internal equity. Based upon these factors, a pay increase MAY result. The Public Information Officer provides oversight and direct management of the Division’s communication methods, outreach, and messaging. This position will develop and disseminate promotional and informational materials via all social media platforms maintained by the Division, and utilize specialized technical writing skills to create documents, press releases, and speeches as needed based on Division activities, messaging and branding. This position creates graphics, edits photos, and builds content for an external facing audience. This position manages public relations initiatives and collaborates with external agencies and organizations, as well as serves as an internal liaison between ALE personnel to enhance and highlight methods for recruiting, retention and training. Additionally, this position services as the lead public information officer for the North Carolina Alcohol Law Enforcement Division, responds to public records requests, and assists Alcohol Law Enforcement leadership with public communication strategy. This position serves as an agency spokesperson as assigned by the Director or their designee and will also serve as the agency liaison with DPS Communications.

Job responsibilities include:

Advises on communications strategies for the Alcohol Law Enforcement Division (ALE) as directed by the NC ALE Director. Serves as the lead Public Information Officer for ALE and also serves as the agency liaison with DPS Communications. Generates media content to be disseminated through approved agency social media platforms to enhance public knowledge of agency accomplishments and crime reduction efforts as well as content for recruitment and training. Writes and edits press releases and news and informational materials as well as preparing and disseminating news releases and feature stories through various media outlets. Plans, develops, implements, reviews, and enhances public affairs programs in association with divisional leadership. Coordinates public affairs activities, develops short- and long-range plans to promote programs and to inform the mass media and public of program objectives, operations, and successes. Responsible for developing programs that increase public awareness of NC ALE and associated public safety and protective action necessary under the oversight of the Director or their designee. Assists ALE leadership with development, implementation and evaluation of marketing strategies, media campaigns, press events and production of printed and electronic publications. Provides media engagement and manages requests for information as directed under the oversight of the Director of the ALE Division or their designee. Researches and confers with appropriate staff on core issues and on sound public affairs/relations approaches. Serves as primary contact for all public records requests. Reviews all public records requests and determines appropriate response through coordination with the Department of Public Safety General Counsel’s Office. Manages and responds to public records requests as dictated by state law and agency policy. Plans, develops, and reviews plans for record keeping of all received requests and subsequent response. Coordinates NC ALE public events, tours, outreach opportunities, and public meetings as assigned by the Director of the NC ALE Division or their designee. Assists in developing marketing materials to inform intended audiences on upcoming events and meetings. Develops and maintains working relationships with key individuals and organizations in the areas of event preparation, documentation, and coordination. Develops and disseminates promotional and informational materials. Creates public-facing programs to increase awareness of the agency’s mission. Provides Critical Incident Response services within the ALE Division in conjunction with the Department of Public Safety Communications Office. Works closely with members of the Division in gathering accurate information, building content through all phases of the critical incident, and in providing targeted information through social media and other communications channels as appropriate and directed. Management Preference(s): Proficiency in a Bi-lingual Hispanic language. Working knowledge of marketing and digital outreach campaigns.
