Job Description:

Nassau Community College invites applications for three (3) Director of Special Programs positions. The Director of Special Programs is responsible to provide a broad range of support to plan, organize, and manage all activities related to all assigned department(s)/area(s), as aligned to the College’s Strategic Plan and Goals, using the highest of ethical standards. The Director of Special Programs works expeditiously and diligently on behalf of the institution while operating with a data informed and equity-focused approach to enhance student access and enrollment in collaboration with multiple internal and external stakeholders. The successful candidates will be responsible for managing multiple capital projects from inception through construction, and assuring design budget compliance; preparing and reviewing detailed design documents, including project budgets; ensuring project adherence with College policies and procedures, as well as standard operating procedures and guidelines for the College and the applicable industry; assisting College departments with programming of projects, as assigned; assisting with the preparation, updating, and maintenance of NCC design guidelines; working collaboratively with all necessary offices of the College to ensure all procurement, legal, and other requirements are met; developing, supervising, and directing staff as assigned; participating in professional development activities; maintaining current knowledge of laws, codes, ordinances, regulations, and pending legislation, relative to areas of responsibility; assisting with all reporting, external and internal, necessary for local, state and/or federal compliance in assigned area(s); assisting with implementation, assessment and evaluation of policies, processes and procedures related to assigned area(s); assisting in identifying and eliminating redundancies in assigned area(s), as well as working collaboratively with other administrators to eliminate redundancies and ensure effective and efficient operation of the College; working collaboratively with all relevant constituencies in the College and the Community to support efforts in assigned area(s); exhibiting fiscal responsibility and accountability in the development and administering of the annual budget for the department; analyzing and reviewing budgetary and financial data; control and authorize expenditures in accordance with established resources and limitations, as directed; serve on College committees, as assigned; work effectively with ethnic, cultural, and socially diverse populations; commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion; and other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

The successful candidates will have a Bachelor’s Degree in Architecture, Engineering, or a related discipline; five (5) years’ experience in architectural design and planning; and experience with managing professional design firms in all professional services in accordance with current NYS and Nassau County regulations. In addition, the successful candidates will have knowledge and experience in preparing and managing capital projects, specifically experience with NYS Building Codes, Wicks’ Law projects, and LEED building requirements; knowledge and experience of capital construction programs at schools, colleges, or public institutions; knowledge of all professional services in accordance with current NYS and Nassau County regulations; knowledge of complex building systems – mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire protection – including extensive understanding of energy efficiency and code compliance needs; knowledge and ability to effectively negotiate with vendors; knowledge of contractual agreements used in design and construction; familiarity with the mission, goals, and objectives of the College and the demographics of the current student body and staff of the College; knowledge of local community and service area; ability to maintain confidentiality and work independently; knowledge and skill in identifying problems, analyzing data, and making recommendations; a high level of emotional intelligence and energy; excellent oral, written, presentation, and interpersonal communication skills; ability to interpret, apply and explain rules, regulations, policies, and procedures; ability to develop collaborative relationships with students, faculty, administration, and internal and external constituencies; ability to manage and adapt to change, make difficult decisions, encourage conflict resolution, and assure employee and department accountability; and strong management skills.

Additional Information:

The ideal candidates will preferably have a Master’s Degree in a related discipline; experience working at a Community College; experience working in a unionized environment; NYS Architectural or Engineering license; experience with current management system(s) and programs used in higher education and/or the related area(s), including but not limited to Ellucian Banner, PeopleSoft, Visio, and Adobe Professional, as well as being proficient in MS Office (Excel, Word, Outlook and PowerPoint).
