As Budget Director, you’ll: ✅ Lead the development of our $823M annual budget and a $1.7B Capital Plan ✅ Serve as a key advisor to leadership and County Council ✅ Innovate long-range financial planning and capital investment strategies ✅ Guide a collaborative, 8-person Budget team toward operational excellence ✅ Oversee grant funding strategies — including FEMA reimbursement and federal/state compliance ✅ Shape how one of the most vibrant counties in the Southeast invests in its future Who You Are You’re a seasoned government finance professional who brings more than technical skill — you bring vision. You’re equally comfortable diving into complex spreadsheets as you are presenting to senior leadership. You’ve successfully led high-stakes budgeting processes, developed innovative funding strategies, and built trust across departments.

Minimum requirements:

10+ years in government budgeting or financial management 5+ years leading teams in a complex public-sector organization Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field

Preferred:

Master’s degree or

CPA/GFOA

certification Experience with multi-year financial modeling and capital planning Track record of navigating political dynamics and public transparency Why Charleston County?
