Job Description

Purchasing Clerk/Assistant J&M Industries, Inc. 300 Ponchatoula Pkwy, Ponchatoula, LA 70454 Job Summary We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Purchasing Clerk/Assistant to join our team. The ideal candidate will play a crucial role in managing procurement processes, ensuring that materials and supplies are acquired efficiently and cost-effectively. This position requires strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work collaboratively with various departments to maintain optimal inventory levels. Job Duties

  • Creates purchase orders from inventory reports and direct shipment requests, forwards to suppliers, and monitors orders through receipt
  • Verifies all requisitions and purchase orders for accuracy by verifying price, quantities, part numbers, due date and freight terms
  • Sources, gathers, and analyzes detailed information on vendors, including pricing, product specifications, lead times, and service capabilities to support informed procurement decisions
  • Works closely with the receiving department to ensure stock orders are received on time and are correct
  • Assists with the maintenance of procurement records such as quotes, delivery tickets, bills of lading, invoices, quality control, and inventory
  • Updates purchasing reports daily
  • Works closely with accounting to ensure all vendor invoices have been reconciled correctly to facilitate accurate and timely billing to customers
  • Monitors all open orders and forwards receiving documentation for payment and updates all parties involved of any changes
  • Provides administrative and clerical support to the department as needed
  • Available for special projects
  • Reports directly to the Purchasing Manager Job Requirements & Qualifications
  • High School Diploma
  • Some college or purchasing/clerical experience preferred
  • Purchasing/Inventory management experience a plus
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Strong multi-tasking and attention to detail skills
  • Propensity for proactiveness and sense of urgency related to job duties
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Sound research and networking skills
  • Microsoft Suite experience preferred
