Full Time Open Until Filled. $17.88 hourly. Actual salary negotiable based on experience and qualifications. Central Area/Cocoa/Central Disposal Facility. Work schedule is variable and includes evenings, weekends, and holidays. Performs entry-level service work at a landfill site, disposing of solid waste and maintaining the grounds. This is heavy physical work and includes exposure to hazardous materials, dirt, dust, odors, fumes, moving machinery, noise, and vermin. Duties include cleaning the grounds around the landfill site and on designated rights-of-way; mowing and utilizing appropriate equipment for grounds maintenance around the landfill site; directing trucks to appropriate dumping areas and opening large, heavy trailer doors; directing the public to the appropriate unloading site and assisting in unloading trash; inspecting the waste stream for flammable and explosive items; removing undesirable items from pits, tipping floors and the landfill site; washing tractors, trailers and other heavy equipment or vehicles; and responding to emergencies; such as, fires and explosions, by following the County Emergency Management Plan and established safety procedures.

REQUIREMENTS

Six (6) months of experience performing manual labor, lawn maintenance, grounds maintenance, or other similar outdoor labor.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Must possess, or obtain prior to employment, a valid Florida driver’s license and maintain said license during the term of employment. Must be able to read contractor-generated hauling tickets identifying contents and cubic yards and write simple records and/or reports. In the event of a hurricane, major storm, natural or man-made disaster that may threaten the area, the employee will be required to perform emergency duties as directed.
