Position Summary:

The Recycling Sorter is responsible for identifying and separating recyclable materials from the general waste stream at a transfer station. This role plays a key part in ensuring recyclable materials are properly diverted from landfill, contributing to sustainability and regulatory compliance efforts.

Key Responsibilities:

Sort materials from waste to recover recyclables such as wood, metal, cardboard, paper, plastics, glass, and metals. Place recyclables into appropriate containers for further processing or shipment. Inspect loads to ensure compliance with recycling standards and remove contaminants. Maintain cleanliness of work area and assist in general upkeep of the transfer station. Operate basic equipment such as compactors, balers, or forklifts (if trained/certified). Follow all safety policies and procedures to maintain a safe work environment. Report any hazards, unsafe practices, or equipment malfunctions to supervisor. Assist customers or drivers with unloading waste and directing them to appropriate areas when needed.

Qualifications:

High school diploma or equivalent preferred. Prior experience in waste management, recycling, or general labor is a plus. Ability to work in outdoor and physically demanding environments (lifting, standing, bending). Ability to follow instructions, work independently, and as part of a team. Must be reliable, punctual, and safety conscious. Personal Protective Equipment will be provided.

Working Conditions:

Exposure to varying weather conditions. May encounter dust, odors, and waste materials. Requires physical labor including lifting up to 50 lbs.
