Job Description

Scheduler Alabama Cancer Care of Anniston Anniston, AL 36204 Job Overview We are seeking a detail-oriented and organized Scheduler to join our team. The ideal candidate is responsible for managing and coordinating the scheduling of patient appointments originating from ALCCs internal provider referrals. This includes verifying referral information, obtaining prior authorizations when necessary, collaborating with clinical and administrative staff, ensuring patients are scheduled in a timely and patient-centered manner, and following through until the reports return into the ordering provider. The scheduler plays a key role in the continuity of care for patients referred from radiation oncology, medical oncology, and hematology services. Responsibilities

  • Receive, review, and process outside orders and referrals from internal providers to healthcare facilities.
  • Schedule follow-ups, procedures, and imaging studies as appropriate for oncology and hematology care.
  • Coordinate with external departments (radiation, infusion, lab, imaging) to ensure appointment availability and alignment with clinical requirements.
  • Verify insurance eligibility, benefits, and prior authorization requirements in collaboration with the billing or authorization team.
  • Communicate with patients regarding appointment details, pre-visit requirements, and documentation needs.
  • Ensure completeness of incoming medical records prior to appointments; request missing documents as needed.
  • Maintain accurate records in the EHR and scheduling systems.
  • Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and medical assistants to optimize patient flow and care continuity.
  • Address and resolve scheduling conflicts, delays, or rescheduling needs professionally and efficiently. Always maintain HIPAA compliance and patient confidentiality. Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; associate degree or medical office certification preferred.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in healthcare scheduling or medical office coordination, preferably in oncology or a specialty clinic setting.
  • Strong knowledge of medical terminology, especially in oncology and hematology.
  • Experience with electronic health records (EHRs); familiarity with systems such as Epic, Cerner, or similar preferred.
  • Understanding of insurance verification and referral processes.
  • Excellent communication, customer service, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently, multitask, and thrive in a fast-paced clinical environment.
