Job Description:

Job Purpose The purpose of the Physician Scheduler is to schedule patients for a specific physician. This includes scheduling appointments, follow-ups, and rescheduling missed appointments. Essential Job Functions Schedule appointments for patients to see physician, extender, labs, scans, etc. Confirm patient appointments. Maintain office schedules for the physicians and extenders. Answer telephones and direct calls to appropriate staff. Receive and route messages and documents as needed. Greet patients, ascertain purpose of visit, and direct them to appropriate staff. Operate office equipment such as voice mail messaging systems, and use word processing, spreadsheet, and other software applications as needed to do work assigned. Perform various clerical and administrative functions as needed. Transmit information or documents as needed, using computer, mail, or facsimile machine. Other duties as assigned. Qualifications Must be able to multi-task and have a commitment to excellence in patient care. Must be sensitive to patients and their needs. Must be able to interact with a variety of people. Must be able to handle stress. Must be able to communicate clearly and effectively both verbally and in written form. Education/Experience Must have a high school diploma or equivalent. At least (1) year experience in a medical office environment required. Working conditions This position works in the scheduling department of a busy oncology/hematology clinic. Patient interaction is required. Physical requirements This position requires that the employee be able to sit at a computer for up to eight hours a day. Heavy phone usage is also required. Direct reports This is not a supervisory position.
