Job Summary This position is designed to manage the process of scheduling all procedures and surgeries and all related preoperative and postoperative office visits and/or tests. This position is responsible for coordinating the flow of information to the patient regarding procedures or surgeries, verifying insurance benefits and appropriately utilizing the schedule of the physician for maximum utilization. Minimum Job Qualifications Licensure or other certifications: Current BLS certification required or must be obtained within 30 days of hire.

Medical Terminology Job Specific and Unique Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Good interpersonal skills Good Communication and Customer Service Skills Good Organization Skills Medical Terminology knowledge Essential Tasks and Responsibilities Schedules all inpatient and outpatient procedures/surgeries. Responsible for obtaining precertification for all procedures/surgeries with the exception of those patients admitted through the ER. Schedules tests, office visits and necessary consults related to the procedure/surgery, both preoperatively and postoperatively. Responsible for preparation of surgical packets, ensuring orders are added to the patient’s medical record. Responsible for verification of patient benefits and communication to patient regarding benefits for insurance coverage and deductible for procedure/surgery and for coordinating resources for financial counseling where needed. Responsible for appropriate utilization of physician’s block time in the OR. Responsible for developing written communication to patients regarding the procedure/surgery and for communication with the patient in the event there are changes with the schedule or conflicts with insurance. Responsible for completing other duties as assigned by the Practice Administrator.
