Associate Director of Housing Operations Reporting to the Director of Housing Facilities for Residential Life, the Associate Director of Housing Operations is responsible for the management, training, and support of over 250 employees, including 20+ supervisors and 3 specialized teams, overseeing more than 3 million square feet of student housing, classrooms, and staff spaces. As an essential personnel member, this position plays a critical role in emergency operations and support functions within the department. Key Responsibilities:
Leadership & Administration (30%) Ensure all buildings meet or exceed custodial cleaning standards aligned with
APPA/ACUHO-I
guidelines. Manage a large team of administrative, custodial, and student staff. Maintain and update custodial and supervisor handbooks, training manuals, and strategic directions for departmental development. Coordinate with Residence Education staff and students to address environmental concerns and ensure a safe and clean living environment. Oversee departmental CMMS (work order system), Starrez, and Workday for managing requests, quality control assessments, and purchasing. Human Resource Management (20%) Serve as the primary liaison with departmental HR Analyst in collaboration with HRM for HR matters related to custodial services, student workers, and floor care staff. Direct and record all training programs, including custodial advancement, job orientation, supervisory training, entomology programs, environmental control, and infectious disease protocols in compliance with CDC and university standards. Assist the Director in planning and implementing policies related to personnel management. Budget Management (20%) Plan, prepare, and execute the custodial labor and equipment/supply budget, totaling over $1 million annually, excluding personnel costs. Manage 26 different accounts/spend categories related to custodial operations. Oversee departmental furnishings, long
- and short-term budget planning, and repairs.
Provide recommendations for projects, upgrades, and contract staffing. Manage procurement processes within the university system. Quality Control (10%) Develop and implement plans, protocols, and schedules aligned with EPA, CDC, and EHS standards for infectious disease and air quality control to maintain a clean and healthy environment. Train staff and dedicated teams on mitigation procedures for residence halls, workforce development, and incentive events. Collaborate with Residence Education and university staff to provide guidance on managing environmental concerns and damages. Resource Management (10%) Research and compile administrative reports on cost-effectiveness of custodial services, vendor contracts, and equipment as well as support services for daily and special event tasks. Maintain records, schedules, and reports for operational efficiency. Develop procedures for effective custodial activities, special events, conference housing, and special projects. Ensure labor, equipment, and material charges meet specifications. Extra Programs (5%) Manage the entomology graduate program collaboration between Residence Life and the Department of Entomology. Develop protocols for pest control, including assessment documentation and cost reports. Oversee student moving services for special projects. Coordinate with university EHS and pest control vendors. Other Duties As Assigned (5%) Assist with special projects assigned by the Director. Provide weekend and holiday on-call support for emergencies. Support divisional initiatives such as Move-In Day and Welcome Week (minimum of 40 hours per year).
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution. Five years of related experience LSU values skills, experience, and expertise. Desired Qualifications:
Master’s degree in Management, Business, Higher Education, Human Resource Management, or Public Administration. Five or more years in management, maintenance management, custodial management, budgeting/finance, or facilities operations. About the
