This job acts as asupervisor and provider of care at the point of care to individualsand cohorts of patients within a unit. Evaluates nursinginterventions by coordinating, delegating and supervising careprovided by the healthcare team of licensed nurses, registerednurses, and patient care technicians. Serves as a resource to stafffor patient care assessment, planning, and evaluation of nursinginterventions and facilitates problem resolution throughcollaboration with unit leadership and other supervisory staff. Incollaboration with the immediate leader and other supervisorystaff, identifies staff strengths and weaknesses and evaluatingstaff performance for team members within their span of control.
Education Required
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
Bachelor’s Degree Science of Nursing (BSN) required for all OchsnerMagnet Facilities. Preferred
- Bachelor’s degree in nursing.
Experience Required
- 1 year of relevant experience as a registerednurse OR 2 years of experience as an LPN in an acute care setting.
Preferred
- 2 years of relevant experience as a registered nurse.
Certifications Required
- Current registered nurse (RN) license instate of practice. Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American HeartAssociation. Knowledge Skills and Abilities (KSAs)
- Problem-solving skills.
- Ability to assess the medical needs of apatient and find a solution to ensure their health and wellbeing.
- Ability to be self-directed.
- Proficient in indicators ofoperational success such as unit productivity, expense management,regulatory requirements, and quality indicators.
- Proficiency inusing computers, software, and web-based applications.
- Effectiveverbal and written communication skills and ability to presentinformation clearly and professionally to varying levels ofindividuals throughout the patient care process.
- Excellentorganizational skills and ability to routinely manage prioritiesand projects involving multiple constituencies.
- Excellent timemanagement skills and ability to work with frequent interruptionsand changes in priorities.
- Ability to work in stressfulsituations and always remain objective and professional. Job Duties
- Administers medications, starts IVs, and discharges patients withtheir healthcare team.
- Organizes, plans, supervises, and providescoordinated patient care within the unit.
- Supervises, develops,and evaluates assigned departmental staff nurses and technicians.
- Promotes the adoption of nursing protocols and clinical practiceguidelines to support evidence-based practice.
- Manages conflicton assigned shifts and collaborates with other supervisors and unitleadership if further action is needed.
- Collaborates with patientquality, safety, and experience leadership and promotes patientquality, safety, and experience processes.
- Supports dailyclinical operations on the unit by ensuring effective scheduling,staffing, and appropriate clinical supplies and resources areavailable for patient care.
- Adapts behavior to the specificpatient population, including but not limited to respect forprivacy, method of introduction to the patient, adaptingexplanation of services or procedures to be performed, requestingpermissions and communication style.
- Performs other relatedduties as assigned.
