Division:

KMOS-TV Description Hires, trains and supervises the student workers in KMOS Master Control/On-Air Operations.
Works with the Program Director to create and edit the on-air promotions for KMOS by
a. Preparing Weekly, Kids, Long Lead, Local and National Promo Reels and others.
b. Ensuring the completed editing and distribution of the above listed promo reels. Under the supervision of the Senior Broadcast Systems Engineer participates in the maintenance, upgrades and installation of KMOS Transmission, Production and Operations equipment. This position will also be part of the regular on-call rotation of the KMOS engineering department. Works with the area of Strategic Partnership to ensure that all technology needs for Outreach events are met and attending these events as necessary. Serves as a backup to the Traffic Coordinator. Examples of Duties Under the direction of the Senior Broadcast Systems Engineer supervise the On-air Operations of KMOS including: – 40%
Hiring, training, scheduling, mentoring and supervising the student workers. This includes ensuring that all KMOS On-Air Operations meet the FCC requirements for broadcast.
In coordination with the Program Director this position will be responsible for the creative work in the creation of KMOS promotional content including weekly promo reels, long lead promos, positioning spots, kids promotional spots and all other on-air break content. This includes video, audio and graphics.
Assisting the Broadcast Systems Engineers may include but is not limited to working with the following equipment: – 55%
KMOS Master Control Broadcast automation computer system comprised of 12 individual computer servers.
Editing computers, graphic computers, video routing computers.
Broadcast Automation, editing, audio, video, traffic, compression and conversion computer software.
Single and multimode fiber optic distribution computer server systems.
PBS transmission and content delivery computer server systems.
Traffic scheduling software and hardware computer server systems.
Ensure that all KMOS On-Air Operations meet the FCC requirements for broadcast as well as exercising independent judgment as to programming, staffing and technical decisions as needed to ensure the uninterrupted broadcast of KMOS channels.
Other duties may included:
Install and maintain software and computer related equipment.
Install and maintain non Office of Technology administered network systems.
Document maintenance of equipment including repairs and settings changes.
Order and track repair parts and equipment from numerous vendors.
Maintain an inventory of all broadcast related equipment within KMOS-TV including remote sites.
Assist Broadcast System engineers with maintenance at transmission sites.
Work engineering on-call shifts as part of the regular and holiday rotations.
Ensuring that the technology needs for the Department of Strategic Partnership events are met, including burning DVDs, arranging media and media devices for playback.
This position will also serve as a backup to the Traffic Coordinator position, which is responsible for maintaining the KMOS Protrack computer Database, ensuring the daily creation of broadcast logs and ensuring that all underwriting spots are run and billed correctly. – 5%

Typical Qualifications Education:

Bachelor’s degree in Electronics/Engineering, Video Production, Networking, Information Technology or applicable field of study.
Education may be substituted for experience or experience substituted for education based on the following equivalencies: AA = 2 years; BA/BS = 4 years; MA/MA = 6 years; PhD = 8 years.

Experience:

Two (2) years of experience in electronic maintenance, Networking, Information Technology or Video Production or related field required.
Experience in software/Firmware installation, upgrades and maintenance.
Experience working with PC hardware, networking protocols, and networking equipment in a broadcast or media environment preferred.
Experience with Master Control, satellite delivery and Traffic Scheduling software relay equipment a plus.
