Amphibious Small Craft Maintenance and Operations Specialist 4.3 4.3 out of 5 stars Holly Ridge, NC 28445 Innovative Reasoning, LLC is seeking a qualified Amphibious Small Craft Maintenance and Operations Specialist to support the II MEF Expeditionary Operations Training Group (EOTG). This position provides maintenance and operational support for small boats, personal watercraft, and associated support equipment critical to amphibious training and readiness. The specialist ensures operational availability, manages maintenance procedures, trains Marine personnel, and supports amphibious exercises and events.
Responsibilities/Duties:
Provide small craft maintenance and operations support for: (2) 31′ USMC Open Water Safety Craft. (4) Kawasaki Personal Watercraft. (12) Enhanced Combat Rubber Reconnaissance Craft with Multi-Fuel Engines (MFEs). All related SL-3 components and trailers. Perform preventative and corrective maintenance following OEM standards: Engine and component repair (Evinrude, Mercury, Kawasaki). Maintenance scheduling (PMCS). Corrosion control program implementation. Maintain maintenance logs and readiness records. Coordinate with the Government on DSI stock levels and parts requirements. Provide subject matter expertise on small craft operations: Serve as a mentor for EOTG small craft mechanics. Instruct on theory, diagnostics, and corrective maintenance techniques. Conduct readiness assessments and bi-weekly reports to EOTG leadership. Operate safety and support craft in support of amphibious operations, including: Dive operations, VBSS, CRRC, PARAOPS, ACV ship-to-shore movements. MEU PTP training and EXCON exercises.
Deliver training to Marine personnel:
Daily and monthly maintenance instruction.
CRRC/MFE
technical inspections, diagnostics, repairs. Equipment embarkation and trailer loading. Maintain the
Boat Locker Hazardous Waste Accumulation Point:
Comply with MCO 4450.12A and all POL handling and storage protocols Perform non-destructive testing and mechanical removal tasks: Leak, ultrasonic, and liquid penetrant testing. Use of grinders, needle guns, and other corrosion removal tools. Ensure all safety protocols and PPE standards are followed.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
None Education/Qualifications and Certifications:
REQUIRED
: High school diploma or equivalent. Factory training in Evinrude, Mercury, and Kawasaki engines. BLS/First Aid, CPR, and AED certified. Certified PWC Rescue Craft Operator and lifeguard (Red Cross or equivalent). Understanding of 72 COLREGs and local coastal waterways. Familiarity with applicable Marine Corps technical manuals.
PREFERRED
: Vocational or technical certification in marine engine repair or boat maintenance. Military occupational specialty experience in small boat operations and maintenance. OSHA training for hazardous materials and marine equipment safety.
Experience:
REQUIRED
Hands-on experience supporting military small craft operations within the
II MEF AOR.
Maintenance and repair of open water safety craft, PWCs, CRRCs, MFEs, and associated trailers. Experience performing preventative maintenance checks and services (PMCS). Background in training and mentoring military mechanics and boat operators. Operational knowledge of dive ops, VBSS, and ship-to-shore movements using small craft. Familiarity with local waterways and launch/recovery procedures.
PREFERRED
Prior USMC or military service with direct involvement in amphibious and small craft operations. Experience coordinating and conducting boat operations over the horizon and in restricted visibility. Exposure to hazardous waste management and documentation in accordance with
MCO 4450.12A.
Experience operating in joint-force or MEU PTP training environments.
Location:
Stone Bay, buildings RR280 (HQ) and RR196 (Boat Locker), Camp Lejeune, NC.
Work Environment:
Regular operations on local waterways and east coast training areas. May include night ops, over-the-horizon travel, and operation in harsh marine conditions.
Physical Demands:
Capable of lifting heavy equipment, operating in dynamic environments, and performing onboard vessel tasks in variable weather
Work Schedule:
Standard hours: 0730-1630, Monday to Friday. Occasional extended hours and field support as needed.
License and Other Requirements:
Hold a valid US Driver’s License, with ability to operate private, commercial and Government owned motor vehicles. PWC Rescue Craft Operator training and shall be lifeguard certified. Must be current and meet OSHA Requirements (i.e., American Red Cross or American Lifeguard Association. Possess a current Basic First Aid and Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation certification. Must be able to obtain a contractor’s common access card, which will stand as identification for instructors and will enable them to access government owned computer equipment and Non-secure Internet Protocol.

Travel:
Approx. 6 weeks (cumulative) per year for non-consecutive periods of 1-week, or less; off base training in CONUS locations; conduct periodic off base site surveys; attend various sustainment training when available.
