No Location CountyErie Street AddressXXX CityBuffalo StateNY Zip Code14214 Job Specifics Duties DescriptionThis position is located within the Facilities Department at the University. The incumbent of this position will be responsible for:
- Applies paint, varnish, stains, enamel, or lacquer to interior and exterior surfaces, trimming and fixtures of buildings, to furniture, a variety of equipment, signs and like surfaces requiring protective or decorative treatment
- As required, erects scaffolding, swing stages, or ladders
- Prepares surfaces for painting using a variety of tools and materials including sandpaper, brushes, or steel wool, and if required removes paints using paint remover, blow torch, wire brush, or scraper
- Fills nail holes, cracks, or joints with putty, plaster or other filler
- Uses premixed paints or prepares paint tip match specified colors by mixing the required portions of pigment, oil, and thinners
- Paints surfaces using brush, spray gun, paint roller, or mittens
- May cover interior walls with wall coverings
- Measures wall to compute amount of wall covering required
- Prepares and cleans surfaces to be covered and cuts wall covering to proper lengths

Minimum QualificationsMinimum Qualifications:
To qualify for this position, you must have one or more of the following:
- Four (4) years of full-time experience in painting under a skilled tradesperson which would provide training equivalent to that given in a training, apprenticeship, or equivalent program.
- Equivalent combination of experience and training gained by completion of technical courses in painting at a school, institute, or branch of the Armed Services may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.
- When required to operate motor vehicles, candidates must possess a valid New York State driver’s license appropriate for the type of vehicle to be operated.

- Since the activities of other employees depend upon the availability of the employee in this position, reliable attendance is a factor that will be considered when filling this vacancy
- Be able to stand for long periods of time, bend and climb and must have the ability to erect and work from scaffolds, swing stages, aerial/scissors lifts and ladders
- Qualified to wear a respirator and have knowledge of good safety practices
- Trained on paint abatement: lead
- Incumbent of this position must be willing and able to respond to after hour calls resulting from graffiti that may arise at any time of day or any day of the week
- This position requires traveling within and between campuses.
A valid license to operate a motor vehicle in NYS is preferred, or candidate should otherwise demonstrate his/her capacity to meet the transportation needs of the position.
Physical Demands:
Candidate will be working near electrical equipment, gas-fired equipment, pressure vessels, and other equipment and in conditions that could potentially be hazardous if industry best-practices and safety procedures are not followed. The successful candidate is required to have confidence in their own abilities, and be able to work safely and proficiently on this equipment and in this environment, at any time of day or day or week. Bending, twisting, ability to lift 50 pounds, climb ladders, access equipment located on mezzanines, catwalks, basements and crawlspaces. Ability to work off ladders, scaffolding, in confined spaces and/or where air monitoring may be required. Work in loud/noisy dusty/dirty environments. Candidate must be able to stand, walk, lift, carry, reach, push and pulling of material and equipment and must be able to perform the physical demands of the position as outlined in the Position Summary.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in a college/university setting
- Assisted in the delivery of paints and other department materials
- Follow production schedule as required by the department supervisor
- Perform maintenance to High Pressure Low Volume paint spraying system to ensure optimal performance
- Experience to match and develop color samples as required, including stains, solid colors, and custom finishes in wood and metal
- Detect and identify written procedures, job related materials and transported materials
