JOB PURPOSE/REASON

Coordinate Charleston County School District efforts to promote and facilitate a safe campus environment at the assigned school/facility. Such efforts will focus on physical security of buildings and grounds and the personal safety and protection of students, faculty and staff. This is a non-sworn, non-enforcement position. To assist the Principal with communication, management, and implementation of all operational aspects of the school building by acting as the Operations Division, Transportation (DOT) and Cleaning/Landscaping liaison as this will improve communications and help reduce confusion/overlap.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION:

Bachelor’s Degree

EXPERIENCE & TRAINING

Five (5)+ years working experience in areas related to campus safety, including community safety, emergency preparedness, crime prevention, campus law enforcement, physical security assessment and personal protection; Three (3)+ years working in the educational setting.

LICENSING/CERTIFICATION

Professional certification in areas related to campus safety or Crime Prevention through Environmental Design preferred;

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Candidate is expected to obtain and/or maintain a CDL license; Ability to work independently, monitor functions of a large facility, ensure safety and security measures are followed; Management experience preferred.

PRIMARY POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Ensure the cleanliness, safety, and general upkeep of school facilities, including classrooms, offices, and common areas. Meet weekly with leadership to ensure the facility is in good shape. Manage work orders and track completion; 2. Liaison with grounds crews/vendors, ensuring the cleanliness of the exterior at all times. Keep track with schedules and do a monthly walk through with staff to calibrate on expectations; 3. Manage regular maintenance and repair schedules for equipment, HVAC systems, plumbing, and electrical systems. Meet with Facilities Management (FM) monthly to review work orders and schedules that FM has created; 4. Serve as liaison to keep Principal informed of progress, details and needs of the District’s Operations Division. Meet with the Associate of FM monthly to review Capital Improvements and RARs. Work with contractors and vendors to support larger renovation or facility improvement projects; 5. Coordinate the implementation of the District’s safety plan at the assigned school/facility. Exercise discretion and independent judgment with respect to all matters necessary to provide for a safe campus environment at all times when the school is in session, at school activities, and during non-school year operations. Ensure that the school meets health, safety, and security regulations, including conducting fire drills, safety checks, and emergency preparedness planning by coordinating with the Executive Director of Security and Emergency Management; 6. Work collaboratively with the Principal (or designee) and CCSD Security and Emergency Management in the management of and training for camera systems, access control, visitor management, and intrusion/fire systems at the assigned school/facility; 7. Supervise Student Concern Specialists assigned to the school/facility; create logistics plans and develop post orders and standard operating procedures to ensure maximum coverage and visibility throughout the campus ensuring the school is safe for students, staff, and visitors. Act as a first responder and coordinate all drills, including active shooter drills. Liaison with CCSD security office and North Charleston Police Department; 8. Work with the Principal to ensure appropriate staffing levels for Student Concern Specialists, including manage communications with local vendors/service providers to ensure quality control; 9. Maintain a degree of high visibility among students and staff, monitor designated areas and immediately report security and safety concerns to the appropriate school administrator and/or law enforcement entity; 10. Provide on site support and security to responding agencies during a crisis situation (i.e. Police, Fire, EMS, etc.); 11. Coordinate security for extracurricular activities; schedule law enforcement personnel when deemed necessary; 12.

Implement district safety policies:

Create and update school safety policies, including protocols for handling emergencies, medical situations, and student behavior issues; 13. Ensure the school complies with all local, state, and federal regulations regarding health, safety, and educational standards; 14. Maintain accurate records and file with district office officials; 15. Tech Liaison for the school ensuring that the school’s IT systems, hardware, and software are functioning properly and available for both staff and students; 16. Liaison with department of transportation regarding required training for busing policies, pick up/drop off issues, as well as safety concerns (accidents, complaints).
